Uneven Foreskin: Causes and Concerns After Hygiene Changes - Urology

The foreskin is misaligned?

Hello, doctor.
I have a condition known as phimosis (or excessive foreskin).
Previously, I would only occasionally clean it and never fully retracted the foreskin until two months ago when I finally decided to clean it thoroughly.
I retracted the foreskin all the way back for the first time in my life.
Since I started washing it every day, my penis has indeed become much cleaner, but I have noticed a puzzling phenomenon: over these two months, the opening of my foreskin seems to have become slightly uneven, appearing higher on one side and lower on the other.
I have attached a diagram for reference: http://i.imgur.com/hJAojNB.png.
I would like to know what is happening.
I never experienced this in my 30 years of not cleaning it properly.
Why has this issue arisen now that I am cleaning it diligently every day? Is this normal? Can I ignore it?

Understanding uneven foreskin, particularly in the context of hygiene changes, can be a source of concern for many individuals. The phenomenon you are experiencing, where the opening of the foreskin appears uneven or slanted after increased hygiene practices, can be attributed to several factors.

Firstly, it is important to recognize that the foreskin is a highly elastic and sensitive tissue. When you began to clean the area more thoroughly, you may have inadvertently altered the natural position or tension of the foreskin. This can happen if the foreskin was previously retracted infrequently, leading to a lack of elasticity or uneven distribution of tissue. As you began to retract the foreskin regularly, it may have stretched or shifted in a way that was not previously experienced, resulting in the appearance of an uneven opening.

Moreover, the act of cleaning itself can lead to minor irritation or inflammation of the skin, especially if done with excessive force or if harsh soaps are used. This irritation can cause temporary swelling or changes in the skin's appearance, which might contribute to the perception of an uneven foreskin. It is crucial to use gentle, non-irritating cleansers and to avoid any aggressive scrubbing, as this can exacerbate any sensitivity or inflammation.

Another consideration is the possibility of anatomical variations that may have been present but unnoticed prior to your increased hygiene routine. The human body can have natural asymmetries, and it is possible that the change in your cleaning habits has simply made you more aware of these variations.

In terms of whether this is normal or if you should be concerned, it largely depends on the presence of any accompanying symptoms. If you are not experiencing pain, discomfort, or any unusual discharge, it is likely that the change is benign. However, if you notice any signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or discharge, or if the unevenness is accompanied by pain, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation.

In summary, the uneven appearance of your foreskin after increased hygiene practices may be due to changes in tissue elasticity, minor irritation from cleaning, or previously unnoticed anatomical variations. If you are not experiencing any discomfort or concerning symptoms, it may not require immediate attention. However, maintaining good hygiene is essential, and if you have any doubts or if the situation changes, seeking medical advice is always a prudent course of action.
