Changes in Semen
Hello doctor, due to a busy work schedule, attending classes, and having a cold (for which I took medication), I did not masturbate or engage in sexual activity from Monday to Friday this week.
On Saturday, I had a day off, and since my girlfriend was out, I decided to masturbate.
I noticed that my semen was a thicker yellow color, but the smell remained unchanged; previously, it was a milky white color (I used to do it once a day).
Later, I masturbated again and observed it was a light yellow color, with the same smell.
I looked online for information and, while I found similar cases, I still hope for a definitive answer.
The next day, I masturbated twice to check the situation: the first time it was light yellow, and the second time it was a mix of off-white and yellow.
Is this normal? Could it be related to other issues or due to my lifestyle? Additionally, two months ago, I had symptoms similar to gonorrhea and underwent two weeks of medication plus an injection.
Although I no longer have any other symptoms, could that have had an effect?

Theoretically, it is normal.
If you are concerned, you can visit an outpatient clinic for testing.

Understanding changes in semen color can be a source of concern for many individuals, especially when there are noticeable differences from what is considered typical. In your case, you have observed a shift from a usual milky white color to a yellowish hue after a period of abstinence and changes in your routine. Let’s delve into the potential causes and implications of these changes.
Firstly, it’s important to note that semen color can vary due to several factors, including hydration levels, diet, frequency of ejaculation, and overall health. A yellowish tint in semen can sometimes be attributed to dehydration, which concentrates the fluids and may alter the color. If you have been busy and potentially less hydrated, this could be a contributing factor.
Diet also plays a significant role in the color of semen. Certain foods, particularly those high in carotenoids (like carrots and sweet potatoes), can impart a yellow hue. Additionally, supplements or medications can affect the color as well. Since you mentioned that you have been taking medication for a cold, it’s possible that this could have an impact, although it’s less common.
Another consideration is the frequency of ejaculation. After a period of abstinence, the first ejaculation may result in a more concentrated fluid, which can appear thicker and more yellow. As you continue to ejaculate, the color may return to a more typical appearance, as the seminal fluid is replenished.
Regarding your previous experience with symptoms resembling gonorrhea, it’s crucial to consider that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can sometimes lead to changes in semen color and consistency. While you mentioned that you have completed treatment and are not experiencing other symptoms, it’s advisable to monitor your health closely. If you notice any additional symptoms such as pain, unusual discharge, or persistent changes in color, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
In summary, occasional changes in semen color, such as the yellowish tint you are experiencing, can often be attributed to benign factors like hydration, diet, and frequency of ejaculation. However, given your medical history and the previous symptoms, it’s essential to remain vigilant. If the changes persist or if you have any concerns about your sexual health, seeking advice from a healthcare provider is the best course of action. They can conduct appropriate tests to rule out any underlying issues and provide peace of mind.
