Cosmetic surgery
Hello doctor, I would like to ask about my nose.
The sides of my nostrils are quite thick and large, and the areas above the nostrils along the nasal bridge are swollen, making my nose appear "puffy." What can I do about the swelling and the redness around the nostrils? Additionally, in the past, I didn't take care of my skin and would pick at my acne, which has left scars on my forehead and pits on both cheeks.
I also have blackheads on my nose.
When I go for cosmetic treatments in the future, can I achieve smooth, egg-like skin?

Dr. Lu Daokuan reply Plastic Surgery
At 16 years old, having acne scars shouldn't be a major concern.
It's important to take good care of your skin, as it may still be prone to breakouts.
It's also normal for the skin around the nostrils to appear red.

To address your concerns regarding thick nasal wings and acne scars, it's essential to understand the underlying causes and explore potential treatment options.
Thick nasal wings can be attributed to several factors, including genetics, inflammation, and skin conditions. If your nasal wings appear swollen or red, it may indicate an underlying issue such as allergic rhinitis or contact dermatitis. Given your history of allergic rhinitis, it’s crucial to manage any allergic reactions that may contribute to the swelling. Over-the-counter antihistamines or topical corticosteroids can help reduce inflammation and redness. However, it’s advisable to consult with an ENT specialist or a dermatologist for a thorough evaluation and personalized treatment plan.
In terms of the acne scars and enlarged pores on your forehead and cheeks, these are common concerns that many individuals face, especially after picking at acne lesions. The good news is that there are various dermatological treatments available that can significantly improve the texture and appearance of your skin. Here are some options to consider:
1. Chemical Peels: These treatments involve applying a chemical solution to the skin, which exfoliates the top layers and promotes new skin growth. This can help reduce the appearance of scars and improve skin texture.
2. Microdermabrasion: This is a non-invasive procedure that exfoliates the skin using tiny crystals. It can help improve the appearance of scars and reduce pore size.
3. Laser Therapy: Laser treatments can target deeper layers of the skin to promote collagen production and improve the appearance of scars. Fractional laser therapy is particularly effective for acne scars.
4. Microneedling: This technique involves using fine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates the body’s healing response and promotes collagen production. It can be effective for both scars and enlarged pores.
5. Fillers: For deeper scars, dermal fillers can be injected to raise the depressed areas of the skin, providing a smoother appearance.
6. Topical Treatments: Products containing retinoids, vitamin C, or hyaluronic acid can help improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of scars over time.
Before proceeding with any treatment, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified dermatologist or skincare professional. They can assess your skin type, the severity of your scars, and recommend the most suitable treatment options tailored to your needs.
In summary, addressing thick nasal wings and acne scars involves a combination of managing any underlying skin conditions and exploring various dermatological treatments. With the right approach, you can achieve smoother, healthier-looking skin. Remember to maintain a consistent skincare routine, protect your skin from sun exposure, and avoid picking at blemishes to prevent further scarring.
