Constant urge to urinate with a sensation of something needing to drop after urination?

I have been feeling the urge to urinate constantly for the past couple of days.
After urinating, I feel like something is going to drop from my lower abdomen, and I also experience some pain in my genital area.
When I stand, I have the persistent urge to urinate, but the amount is very little.
I don't feel this way when lying down or sitting.
Today, after urinating, I felt some discharge.
Could you please tell me what this situation might be? Thank you.

Dr. Li Yilun reply Urology

There are many causes of urinary discomfort, and given your age, an infection should be considered first.
Therefore, it is recommended to perform a urinalysis to confirm whether there is indeed inflammation.
Based on the symptoms, antibiotic treatment may be used; however, different patients may have varying conditions.
It is important to note that a simple description cannot determine the severity of the condition.
Thus, if symptoms do not improve or worsen, it is still advisable to consult a healthcare professional for evaluation and examination to avoid delaying the diagnosis.
Physicians often need to inquire about medical history, conduct visual and physical examinations, and perform tests to establish a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Frequent urination accompanied by discomfort can be indicative of several underlying medical conditions, and it's important to approach this symptom with careful consideration. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a combination of urinary urgency, a sensation of pressure in the lower abdomen, and possibly some pain in the genital area. Additionally, the feeling of discharge after urination raises further questions about the nature of your symptoms.

One possible explanation for your symptoms could be a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs are common, especially among women, and can cause frequent urination, a burning sensation during urination, and a feeling of urgency. In some cases, individuals may also experience pelvic discomfort or pain. The sensation of having something "falling" from the lower abdomen could be related to bladder irritation or inflammation caused by the infection.

Another potential cause could be prostatitis, which is inflammation of the prostate gland in men. This condition can lead to symptoms such as frequent urination, pelvic pain, and discomfort in the genital area. If you are male and experiencing these symptoms, it would be prudent to consider this possibility.

Additionally, conditions such as interstitial cystitis (IC) or bladder overactivity could also lead to similar symptoms. IC is a chronic condition characterized by bladder pressure, bladder pain, and sometimes pelvic pain, which can lead to frequent urination and urgency. On the other hand, bladder overactivity can cause a sudden and uncontrollable urge to urinate, often resulting in frequent trips to the bathroom.

The presence of discharge after urination could suggest a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or another type of infection, which may require specific testing and treatment. Conditions like gonorrhea or chlamydia can lead to similar urinary symptoms and should be ruled out, especially if there has been any recent sexual activity.

Given the variety of potential causes for your symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider will likely perform a physical examination, take a detailed medical history, and may order laboratory tests, including a urinalysis and possibly cultures, to determine the presence of infection or other underlying issues.
In the meantime, it may be helpful to stay hydrated, avoid irritants such as caffeine and alcohol, and monitor your symptoms closely. If you experience worsening symptoms, such as fever, chills, or severe pain, it is important to seek immediate medical care.

In summary, your symptoms of frequent urination, discomfort, and the sensation of discharge could be indicative of a urinary tract infection, prostatitis, interstitial cystitis, or another condition. A thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential to identify the underlying cause and to initiate appropriate treatment. Please do not hesitate to reach out to a medical provider for assistance.
