The semen is dark yellow and watery?
Hello Doctor, I was diagnosed with epididymitis at the hospital yesterday and am currently undergoing treatment.
About a month ago, I noticed that my semen had changed color, becoming very dark, mostly deep yellow, and even close to brown.
It has also been quite watery, and this has persisted even when I haven't ejaculated for a long time.
However, prior to the onset of symptoms of epididymitis (unilateral testicular swelling and pain), there were no abnormalities in my genital area, and there was no pus present.
My urination has been very smooth.
Could the changes in my semen be due to epididymitis, or could there be other causes for this? Thank you.

Xiao Li: Hello, it is recommended to check the semen to see if there are any abnormalities.
The appearance of the semen alone cannot provide a definitive assessment.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.

The changes you are experiencing in your semen, specifically the deep yellow to brown color and its watery consistency, can indeed be concerning. Given your recent diagnosis of epididymitis, it is important to understand the potential causes and implications of these symptoms.
Epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that carries sperm from the testicles. This condition can be caused by various factors, including bacterial infections, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or even non-infectious causes such as trauma or certain medications. The inflammation can lead to changes in the quality and appearance of semen.
The deep yellow color of your semen may be attributed to several factors. One common reason for a change in semen color is the presence of an infection or inflammation, which can alter the composition of seminal fluid. In cases of epididymitis, the body responds to infection by increasing the production of white blood cells and other substances that can affect the color and consistency of semen. Additionally, dehydration can also lead to concentrated, darker semen. If you have been less hydrated, this could contribute to the color change.
The watery consistency of your semen may also be linked to the inflammation caused by epididymitis. Inflammation can affect the glands that produce seminal fluid, leading to a change in viscosity. It is also worth noting that frequent ejaculation or prolonged periods without ejaculation can alter the consistency of semen, but since you mentioned that this change occurred prior to the onset of epididymitis symptoms, it is likely related to the condition itself.
While the changes in your semen are concerning, it is essential to consider the overall context of your health. Since you have not experienced any purulent discharge or significant urinary symptoms, it is possible that the changes are primarily related to the epididymitis. However, it is crucial to monitor your symptoms closely. If you notice any additional symptoms such as fever, increased pain, or changes in urination, you should seek medical attention promptly.
In terms of treatment, since you are already on medication for epididymitis, it is important to adhere to your prescribed regimen. Antibiotics are typically the first line of treatment if a bacterial infection is suspected. Additionally, supportive measures such as rest, ice application, and over-the-counter pain relief can help alleviate discomfort.
If your symptoms do not improve or if you have ongoing concerns about the changes in your semen, it is advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend further evaluation, such as a semen analysis or imaging studies, to rule out other potential causes, including infections or structural abnormalities.
In summary, the changes in your semen color and consistency are likely related to your recent diagnosis of epididymitis. It is essential to continue your treatment and monitor your symptoms closely. If you have any concerns or if your symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. Your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing these changes early can help prevent potential complications.
