Red spots on the foreskin?
Hello doctor, a few days ago I experienced occasional pain in my penis.
After taking a shower yesterday, I noticed two red, pimple-like bumps at the tip of my foreskin, and they feel itchy.
I also feel discomfort when my underwear rubs against them.
Is this normal?

Itching of the penis and small red rashes on the glans may be early signs of some skin inflammation.
Clinically, a visual and physical examination is necessary to determine the possible causes of the skin changes.
Other causes may be related to hygiene habits, dermatitis, or allergic skin conditions.
Additionally, it may also be associated with diabetes; however, the condition can vary significantly among different patients.
It is important to note that a simple description cannot provide a definitive diagnosis.
Therefore, if symptoms do not improve, it is strongly recommended to consult a professional physician for evaluation and examination.
Physicians often require a thorough medical history, visual inspection, physical examination, and tests to establish a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Red bumps on the foreskin can be concerning, and it's important to understand the potential causes and when to seek medical help. Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing discomfort, itching, and the presence of red bumps, which could be indicative of several conditions.
1. Possible Causes:
- Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles that can occur in the genital area. It often presents as small red bumps that may resemble pimples and can be itchy or painful.
- Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans. They are normal anatomical variations and do not require treatment.
- Genital Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), these can appear as small, flesh-colored or red bumps. They may be itchy or uncomfortable and can spread through sexual contact.
- Candidiasis (Yeast Infection): This can cause red, itchy bumps and is more common in individuals who are uncircumcised. It may be accompanied by a thick discharge.
- Contact Dermatitis: Irritation from soaps, detergents, or fabrics can lead to red, itchy bumps. If you have recently changed any products, this could be a factor.
- Balanitis: This is an inflammation of the glans and can cause redness, swelling, and discomfort. It may be due to poor hygiene, infections, or skin conditions.
2. When to Seek Help:
- If the bumps persist for more than a few days or worsen, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
- If you experience additional symptoms such as significant pain, swelling, discharge, or fever, you should seek medical attention promptly.
- If you suspect that the bumps may be sexually transmitted (e.g., genital warts), it is important to get evaluated and discuss safe sexual practices with your healthcare provider.
3. Self-Care and Management:
- Maintain good hygiene by gently washing the area with mild soap and water.
- Avoid irritants such as scented soaps or lotions that may exacerbate the condition.
- Wear loose-fitting underwear to minimize friction and irritation.
- If you suspect a yeast infection, over-the-counter antifungal treatments may help, but it’s best to consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
In conclusion, while some causes of red bumps on the foreskin may be benign, others may require medical intervention. It’s essential to monitor your symptoms and seek professional advice if you have concerns. Remember, early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent complications and ensure your overall health.
