Redness on the inner side of the foreskin?

Hello doctor, I would like to ask you about something.
A few days ago, I experienced itching in my foreskin, so I went to see a doctor.
The doctor prescribed Betamethasone cream and medication, which did relieve the itching.
However, I have noticed that the inner side of the glans and foreskin has become very red, and sometimes I experience a slight stinging pain.
Should I continue using this medication, or do I need to see the doctor again for a different prescription? Thank you.

When dealing with redness and itching under the foreskin, it is essential to approach the situation with care and attention to detail. The symptoms you are experiencing, such as itching, redness, and occasional sharp pain, can be indicative of several conditions, including infections, dermatitis, or other dermatological issues.
1. Understanding Your Symptoms: The initial treatment you received with Betamethasone (a topical corticosteroid) was likely aimed at reducing inflammation and itching. While it may have provided some relief, the persistence of redness and the emergence of sharp pain could suggest that the underlying issue has not been fully addressed. It’s important to monitor these symptoms closely. If the redness and pain continue or worsen, it’s advisable to seek further medical evaluation.

2. When to Seek Further Treatment: If the symptoms do not improve within a few days of using the prescribed medication, or if they worsen, you should definitely return to your healthcare provider. Persistent redness and pain could indicate a secondary infection or an allergic reaction to the medication itself. Additionally, if you notice any discharge, increased swelling, or fever, these are signs that warrant immediate medical attention.

3. Continuing Medication: While Betamethasone can be effective for inflammation, it is not always suitable for long-term use, especially if there is an underlying infection. If you are still experiencing significant symptoms, it may be best to consult your doctor before continuing the use of this medication. They might consider switching to a different treatment or adding an antifungal or antibacterial agent depending on the diagnosis.

4. Possible Conditions: Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans), yeast infections, or contact dermatitis can cause similar symptoms. Each condition may require a different treatment approach. For instance, if a fungal infection is suspected, antifungal creams or oral medications may be necessary.
5. Self-Care Measures: In the meantime, maintaining good hygiene is crucial. Gently clean the area with mild soap and water, and avoid irritants such as scented soaps or lotions. Wearing loose-fitting underwear can also help reduce irritation.

6. Follow-Up Care: If you have already seen a doctor and the symptoms persist, it is essential to follow up. A healthcare provider may perform a physical examination and possibly take a culture or swab to identify any infectious agents. This can help tailor the treatment specifically to your needs.

7. Preventive Measures: Once the immediate issue is resolved, consider discussing preventive measures with your healthcare provider. This may include proper hygiene practices, avoiding irritants, and possibly discussing the benefits of circumcision if recurrent issues arise.

In summary, while initial treatment may have provided some relief, the persistence of your symptoms suggests that further evaluation is necessary. Do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for a follow-up appointment to ensure that you receive the appropriate care and treatment for your condition. Your health and comfort are paramount, and timely intervention can prevent complications.
