Menstruation is very light and dark in color?

Menstruation has only come a little and then stopped, with a color slightly darker than normal red.
I had a vaginal inflammation about two weeks ago, but it resolved after taking medication.
The bleeding is so minimal that I don't need to use sanitary pads, but when I wipe after using the restroom, there is dark red blood.
Why is this happening?

Hello: Abnormal vaginal bleeding should first rule out miscarriage due to pregnancy.
Next, a pelvic examination should be performed to check for other causes, such as cervical polyps, endometrial polyps, or endometrial hyperplasia.
Based on your description, the most likely cause is menstrual irregularity due to anovulation, and treatment should focus on regulating the menstrual cycle.

Dark spotting, particularly when it appears as a deep red or brown discharge, can be a source of concern for many women. Understanding the potential causes and implications of this symptom is crucial for maintaining women's health.
Firstly, it is important to recognize that menstrual cycles can be influenced by a variety of factors, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, lifestyle changes, and underlying medical conditions. The presence of dark spotting, especially if it occurs outside of your regular menstrual period, may indicate several possibilities.

1. Hormonal Imbalances: Hormonal fluctuations are one of the most common reasons for irregular bleeding or spotting. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or perimenopause can lead to changes in menstrual patterns and spotting. If your body is experiencing an imbalance in estrogen and progesterone, it may result in dark spotting.

2. Ovulation: Some women experience spotting during ovulation, which can occur about midway through the menstrual cycle. This is often referred to as ovulation bleeding and can appear as light spotting that may be dark in color.

3. Implantation Bleeding: If there is a possibility of pregnancy, dark spotting could be related to implantation bleeding, which occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. This typically happens around the time your next period is due and can be mistaken for a light period.

4. Infections or Inflammation: You mentioned having experienced vaginal inflammation two weeks prior. Infections such as bacterial vaginosis or sexually transmitted infections can cause abnormal bleeding or spotting. Even after treatment, residual inflammation may lead to spotting.

5. Uterine Conditions: Conditions such as fibroids, polyps, or endometriosis can also lead to irregular bleeding. These conditions may cause the uterus to shed tissue irregularly, resulting in dark spotting.

6. Stress and Lifestyle Factors: High levels of stress, lack of sleep, and significant lifestyle changes can impact your menstrual cycle. Stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that may manifest as spotting or changes in menstrual flow.

Given your history of vaginal inflammation, it is advisable to monitor your symptoms closely. If the dark spotting persists, increases in volume, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, discomfort, or unusual discharge, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider. They may recommend a pelvic examination, ultrasound, or hormonal assessments to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.

In summary, while dark spotting can be concerning, it is often related to benign causes such as hormonal changes, ovulation, or residual effects from previous infections. However, it is crucial to remain vigilant and seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen, as early intervention can help address any potential underlying issues effectively.
