Could pregnancy occur under these circumstances?

Hello doctor, my girlfriend's last menstrual period started on January 6th.
However, on January 24th, we went to a hot spring (hot water) and after soaking for a while, I suddenly wanted to engage in sexual activity, so I went in a little bit (without a condom), just the tip, and maybe not even that much because it was painful for both of us since it was our first time.
I only moved a few times before pulling out.
Her hymen was not broken, and I did not penetrate her vagina; perhaps a tiny bit might have entered, but it’s unlikely! She said it hurt, so we stopped.
I did not ejaculate and did not feel the urge to ejaculate.
I have heard from others that before ejaculation, men may release some fluid that contains a small amount of sperm, but since we were in the hot spring, would those sperm die? After that, I also helped her with manual stimulation.
Since we are both still studying, we are very worried about the possibility of pregnancy and have argued about it many times! Additionally, the week before January 24th, she had a urinary tract infection and took antibiotics or steroids, but I’m not sure.
I looked online and found that this could cause a delay in menstruation.
So, her period came on February 8th.
About 2-3 days prior, she experienced breast tenderness and bloating, which are similar to pregnancy symptoms.
Some people say these could also be signs that menstruation is approaching.
However, we are very worried about whether she is pregnant or if it’s just a sign of a delayed period.
The period finally arrived (on February 8th), but we are unsure if it’s a real period or a false one.
We are genuinely afraid of pregnancy.
Is there a chance of pregnancy in this situation? What is the likelihood? Are the breast tenderness and bloating signs of a delayed period? Thank you, doctor.

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are low during menstruation.
It is recommended to take proper contraceptive measures "before" sexual intercourse.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

When it comes to concerns about pregnancy, especially in the context of minimal contact during activities like soaking in a hot spring, it's important to understand the biological mechanisms involved. From your description, it seems that you and your girlfriend engaged in some intimate contact, but without penetration and without ejaculation. Let's break down the concerns and clarify the situation.

Can You Get Pregnant from Minimal Contact?
1. Pre-ejaculate Fluid: It is true that before ejaculation, males can release pre-ejaculate fluid (often referred to as "pre-cum"). This fluid can contain sperm, although typically in very small amounts. The risk of pregnancy from this fluid is generally low, especially if there was no penetration. However, if any of this fluid came into contact with the vaginal area, there is a theoretical risk of pregnancy, albeit minimal.

2. Sperm Viability in Water: Sperm are quite sensitive to environmental conditions. In a hot spring, the temperature and the presence of chlorine or other chemicals can significantly reduce sperm viability. While sperm can survive in water for a short time, the conditions in a hot spring are not conducive to their survival. Therefore, the likelihood of sperm being able to swim effectively and cause pregnancy in this scenario is very low.

3. Timing of Menstrual Cycle: Your girlfriend's menstrual cycle is also a crucial factor. If her last period started on January 6 and she has a typical cycle length (around 28 days), she would be expected to ovulate around January 20-21. Since you mentioned that the contact occurred on January 24, it would be just after her ovulation window. If she had not ovulated, the chances of conception would be significantly reduced.

Symptoms and Concerns
1. Breast Tenderness and Bloating: The symptoms your girlfriend is experiencing, such as breast tenderness and bloating, can indeed be associated with both early pregnancy and the premenstrual phase. Hormonal changes leading up to menstruation can cause similar symptoms, making it difficult to distinguish between the two without a pregnancy test.

2. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): You mentioned that your girlfriend had a urinary tract infection and was taking antibiotics. UTIs and their treatments can sometimes affect menstrual cycles, potentially causing delays or changes in symptoms. This could explain the timing of her period and any associated symptoms.

3. Menstrual Cycle: Since her period arrived on February 8, it is a strong indicator that she is not pregnant. A menstrual period typically signifies that ovulation did not result in fertilization. However, if there are still concerns about the nature of her bleeding (whether it is a true period or not), a home pregnancy test could provide additional reassurance.

Conclusion
In summary, while there is a theoretical risk of pregnancy from minimal contact, the actual likelihood in your situation appears to be very low. The combination of no penetration, the conditions in the hot spring, and the timing of her menstrual cycle all contribute to this assessment. If your girlfriend's period is regular and she experiences typical menstrual symptoms, it is likely that she is not pregnant. However, if there are ongoing concerns or if her symptoms persist, it would be advisable for her to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and peace of mind.
Maintaining open communication with your partner about these concerns is also essential, as anxiety about potential pregnancy can strain relationships.
