Frequent urination after sexual intercourse in males?
Hello, doctor.
Recently, I've experienced frequent urination a few days after sexual intercourse.
I feel a dull sensation between my anus and testicles.
The first time this occurred, I went to see a doctor, and after a urinalysis, prostate ultrasound, and kidney ultrasound, everything came back normal.
The doctor prescribed medication and advised me to rest, and after a few days, it resolved.
However, this has happened several times since then, and while I didn't think much of it as it usually resolves after a few days, I still find it strange that it keeps happening.
I don't experience this when I masturbate.
Recently, since my girlfriend was on her period, she helped me achieve ejaculation manually, and afterward, I started experiencing frequent urination again.
I would like to know if there is any underlying issue or if this could be due to increased stimulation, as during these instances of sexual activity, there were moments of rapid ejaculation followed by pauses before resuming.
Could you please provide some insight? Thank you.

Hello, essentially, erection and ejaculation involve the excitation and coordination of the autonomic nervous system.
It is possible that prolonged sexual activity or excessive stimulation has led to overstimulation of the nerves, resulting in localized neurological symptoms.
I recommend applying a warm towel to the affected area for 5-10 minutes after ejaculation, as this may help alleviate nerve excitation.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again for further discussion and research.
Please note that online responses should only serve as a reference; if necessary, it is important to seek medical attention at a healthcare facility.

Frequent urination after intercourse can be a perplexing issue, and it’s understandable that you’re seeking clarity on this matter. Based on your description, it seems that you experience increased urinary frequency and a sensation of fullness or discomfort in the perineal area (the space between the anus and the scrotum) following sexual activity. While you have undergone various tests that returned normal results, it is essential to explore potential causes and solutions further.
One possible explanation for your symptoms could be related to the physiological changes that occur during and after sexual activity. Sexual arousal and orgasm can stimulate the pelvic floor muscles and the bladder, leading to increased urinary urgency. This is particularly true if there is any form of prolonged stimulation or if you are engaging in activities that involve stopping and starting, as you mentioned with your sexual experiences. The pelvic floor muscles may become tense or overactive, contributing to the sensation of fullness and the urge to urinate.
Another factor to consider is the potential for irritation or inflammation in the urinary tract or surrounding areas. Even if your urine tests and imaging studies have returned normal, it is possible that there could be mild inflammation or irritation that is exacerbated by sexual activity. This could be due to friction, changes in lubrication, or even the introduction of bacteria during intercourse, especially if there is any anal play involved.
Additionally, the prostate gland, which is located just below the bladder, can also be influenced by sexual activity. Prostatitis, or inflammation of the prostate, can lead to symptoms such as increased urinary frequency, discomfort, and a sensation of fullness. Although your prostate ultrasound was normal, it might be worth discussing with your healthcare provider whether further evaluation for prostatitis or other prostate-related issues is warranted.
It’s also important to consider psychological factors. Anxiety or stress related to sexual performance or the act itself can lead to heightened awareness of bodily sensations, including the urge to urinate. If you find that your symptoms are accompanied by anxiety or discomfort during sexual activity, addressing these psychological aspects may be beneficial.
In terms of solutions, here are some recommendations:
1. Hydration: Ensure you are adequately hydrated before and after sexual activity. This can help dilute urine and reduce irritation.
2. Pelvic Floor Exercises: Engaging in pelvic floor exercises (Kegel exercises) can strengthen the muscles and potentially help with urinary control and reduce discomfort.
3. Post-Intercourse Urination: Consider urinating after sexual activity to help flush out any potential irritants and reduce the risk of urinary tract infections.
4. Lubrication: If friction is a concern, using a water-based lubricant during sexual activity may help reduce irritation.
5. Consultation with a Specialist: If your symptoms persist or worsen, it may be beneficial to consult with a urologist or a pelvic floor specialist who can provide a more in-depth evaluation and tailored treatment options.
6. Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: If anxiety is a contributing factor, exploring mindfulness or relaxation techniques may help alleviate some of the stress associated with sexual activity.
In conclusion, while your symptoms may be related to normal physiological responses to sexual activity, it is essential to monitor them closely. If they continue to cause concern or interfere with your quality of life, seeking further evaluation from a healthcare professional is advisable. Open communication with your partner about your experiences and any discomfort can also foster a supportive environment as you navigate these challenges.
