There is a white bump on the inner lip?
About a month ago, I noticed a white bump on the inside of my lip.
It feels like a prominent elevation when I touch it with my tongue, and there is a clear, colorless spot in the center.
When I poke it, fluid comes out, but there is no bleeding.
After a few days, it grows back.
During this time, I ate an orange, and the next day it seemed to shrink a bit, but after a while, it reappeared.
What could be the cause?

Dear user, based on your description of white raised spots on the inner side of your lips, which are transparent in the center and reappear a few days after being popped, it is advisable to consult a dentist for an examination of the lesion.
If necessary, a biopsy may be arranged.
Please follow your doctor's instructions for follow-up visits to check the wound and review the results.
Whether the lesion is a common mucocele or another soft tissue issue, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly for early treatment.
Thank you for your inquiry.

More Info
The presence of white bumps on the inside of your lips can be concerning, and it’s important to understand the potential causes and appropriate responses. Based on your description, the white bump you are experiencing could be a few different things, including mucoceles, canker sores, or even oral thrush.
1. Mucoceles: These are cyst-like lesions that can occur when a salivary gland duct is blocked or damaged. They often appear as painless, fluid-filled bumps and can be translucent or white. They can form due to trauma, such as biting your lip or irritation from dental appliances. Mucoceles can resolve on their own, but if they persist or cause discomfort, a healthcare provider may recommend treatment, which could include drainage or surgical removal.
2. Canker Sores (Aphthous Ulcers): These are small, painful ulcers that can appear on the inside of the lips, cheeks, or tongue. They often have a white or gray center with a red halo. Canker sores can be triggered by stress, certain foods (like citrus), or nutritional deficiencies (such as vitamin B12, folate, or iron). They typically heal on their own within one to two weeks. Over-the-counter topical treatments can help alleviate pain and promote healing.
3. Oral Thrush: This is a fungal infection caused by an overgrowth of Candida yeast in the mouth. It can present as white patches or bumps that may be painful and can bleed when scraped. Oral thrush is more common in individuals with weakened immune systems, those taking certain medications (like antibiotics or corticosteroids), or individuals with diabetes. Treatment usually involves antifungal medications.
4. Other Considerations: Other potential causes could include viral infections (like herpes simplex), allergic reactions, or even benign tumors. If the bump is persistent, changing in appearance, or accompanied by other symptoms (such as pain, swelling, or difficulty eating), it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation.
Recommendations:
- Observation: Keep an eye on the bump. If it changes in size, color, or if you develop additional symptoms (like pain or fever), seek medical advice.
- Avoid Irritants: Try to avoid spicy, acidic, or abrasive foods that may irritate the area.
- Maintain Oral Hygiene: Good oral hygiene can help prevent infections and promote healing. Brush your teeth gently and consider using a mild mouthwash.
- Consult a Professional: If the bump persists for more than two weeks, or if you experience significant discomfort, it’s best to see a dentist or an oral health specialist. They can provide a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment options.
In summary, while the white bump on the inside of your lip may not be serious, it is essential to monitor its behavior and consult a healthcare provider if it does not resolve or if you have concerns. Early intervention can help address any underlying issues and provide relief from discomfort.
