Cauliflower treatment
Hello doctor, I recently noticed something resembling warts on my penis.
I consulted a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who confirmed it was indeed a wart infection.
However, the clinic is a private facility that charges out-of-pocket fees.
After paying 9,000 TWD, I received a jar of powder and a small bottle of liquid medication.
I was instructed to take the powder three times a day for about two weeks, and the liquid is to be applied once a week.
I have been taking the powder for a month and have applied the liquid several times, but the warts keep reappearing.
I have spent a total of 18,000 TWD and still have not seen improvement.
I would like to ask the doctor if it would be more appropriate to visit a large hospital's urology department for this issue.
Additionally, could you recommend a hospital in Taichung? What treatment options would you suggest?

Genital warts, caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), can be a distressing condition for many individuals. In Taiwan, seeking care from a urologist or a dermatologist is indeed a prudent step, especially if over-the-counter or traditional remedies have not yielded satisfactory results.
In your case, it seems that you've already tried a treatment regimen from a private clinic, which has not been effective. This is not uncommon, as genital warts can be persistent and may require more aggressive treatment options. Urologists and dermatologists are well-equipped to provide a range of treatments for genital warts, including:
1. Topical Treatments: These include medications like imiquimod (Aldara) or podofilox (Condylox), which can be applied directly to the warts. These treatments work by stimulating the immune system or directly destroying the wart tissue.
2. Cryotherapy: This involves freezing the warts with liquid nitrogen. This method is often effective and can be performed in a doctor's office.
3. Electrosurgery: This technique uses electrical currents to burn off the warts. It is typically used for larger or more stubborn warts.
4. Laser Treatment: For extensive or resistant warts, laser therapy can be an option. It is usually reserved for cases where other treatments have failed.
5. Surgical Excision: In some cases, warts may need to be surgically removed, especially if they are large or causing discomfort.
It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional who can assess the extent of your condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment. They can also provide guidance on the potential for recurrence and the importance of HPV vaccination, which can help prevent future infections with certain strains of the virus.
In terms of hospitals in Taichung, several reputable institutions offer urology services. Some of the well-known hospitals include:
- Taichung Veterans General Hospital: Known for its comprehensive urology department and experienced specialists.
- China Medical University Hospital: Offers a range of urological services and has a good reputation for patient care.
- Taichung Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare: Provides various medical services, including urology.
When you visit a urologist, be prepared to discuss your medical history, the treatments you've tried, and any other symptoms you may be experiencing. This information will help the doctor tailor a treatment plan that is right for you.
In conclusion, while genital warts can be frustrating and persistent, effective treatments are available. Seeking care from a qualified urologist in a reputable hospital in Taichung will provide you with the best chance for successful management of your condition. Don't hesitate to reach out to a specialist who can offer you the care and support you need.
