Cardiac issues
Hello, I would like to inquire about a heart issue.
Last year, a doctor mentioned that I had arrhythmia, but after wearing a 24-hour Holter monitor, they suggested it might have been triggered by a cold.
Since then, it has subsided, but recently I have been experiencing a slight squeezing sensation in the area of my heart, a feeling of tightness in my chest, and I can also feel my heartbeat, to the point where it is visibly noticeable.
I'm unsure if there is really a problem with my heart.

Hello, with the unstable weather and low atmospheric pressure, it is common to experience discomfort such as a squeezing sensation in the heart area, a feeling of tightness in the chest, and an awareness of the heartbeat.
It is possible to visually observe the heart beating, but this does not necessarily indicate a serious heart problem; it may simply be a case of palpitations.
It is advisable to monitor the situation.
If you are still concerned, you may visit a cardiology clinic for further evaluation.

More Info
When it comes to understanding heart issues, it's essential to recognize the symptoms and know when to seek help. Based on your description, it seems you have experienced some concerning symptoms, including a history of arrhythmia, chest discomfort, and a sensation of your heart beating strongly. These symptoms can be alarming and understandably lead to anxiety about your heart health.
Firstly, it's important to differentiate between various types of chest pain and discomfort. The sensation of tightness or pain in the chest can stem from multiple causes, including cardiac issues, gastrointestinal problems, or even anxiety. Given your previous diagnosis of arrhythmia, it is wise to remain vigilant about any new or recurring symptoms.
Symptoms to Monitor:
1. Chest Pain or Discomfort: If the pain is sharp, persistent, or accompanied by other symptoms such as shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or dizziness, it could indicate a more serious condition, such as angina or a heart attack.
2. Palpitations: Feeling your heart racing or pounding can be benign, especially if it occurs during stress or anxiety. However, if it happens frequently or is associated with other symptoms, it warrants further investigation.
3. Shortness of Breath: If you experience difficulty breathing, especially during rest or minimal exertion, it is crucial to seek medical attention.
4. Fatigue or Weakness: Unexplained fatigue, particularly if it is new or worsening, can be a sign of heart issues.
When to Seek Help:
- If you experience any of the above symptoms, especially if they are new or have changed in intensity or frequency, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
- If you have a history of heart disease or risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, you should be proactive in discussing your symptoms with a doctor.
- If your symptoms are accompanied by anxiety or panic attacks, it may be beneficial to address both the physical and psychological aspects of your health.
Next Steps:
1. Consult a Cardiologist: Given your history of arrhythmia and current symptoms, a follow-up with a cardiologist is essential. They may recommend further testing, such as an echocardiogram or a stress test, to assess your heart's function and structure.
2. Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep a diary of your symptoms, noting when they occur, their duration, and any associated activities or stressors. This information can be invaluable for your healthcare provider.
3. Manage Anxiety: Anxiety can exacerbate physical symptoms, including those related to heart health. Consider speaking with a mental health professional to develop coping strategies for managing anxiety, which may help alleviate some of your physical symptoms.
Lifestyle Considerations:
- Diet and Exercise: A heart-healthy diet and regular physical activity can significantly impact your cardiovascular health. Aim for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while limiting saturated fats, sugars, and sodium.
- Stress Management: Engage in stress-reducing activities such as yoga, meditation, or deep-breathing exercises. These practices can help calm your mind and potentially reduce the frequency of palpitations or chest discomfort.
- Regular Check-ups: Regular visits to your healthcare provider for check-ups can help monitor your heart health and catch any potential issues early.
In summary, while your symptoms may be related to anxiety or other non-cardiac issues, it is crucial to take them seriously, especially given your medical history. Seeking professional medical advice is the best course of action to ensure your heart health is appropriately managed. Remember, early intervention can make a significant difference in outcomes related to heart health.
