Menstrual bleeding
Hello doctor, I took Mofule for the first month, but I experienced severe nausea and breast engorgement, so I switched to Yuezhi in the second month, which improved a lot.
I continued taking Yuezhi in the third month, and when I reached the 16th pill, I had a little bit of bleeding.
Is this normal? Is the contraceptive effect still effective? Thank you.

When it comes to understanding spotting while on Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol), it's important to recognize that some degree of irregular bleeding or spotting can be a common experience for many women, especially during the initial months of starting a new oral contraceptive.
Yaz is a combination oral contraceptive pill that is often prescribed not only for contraception but also for managing symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and acne. The hormones in Yaz work by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm, and thinning the uterine lining to prevent implantation.
In your case, experiencing spotting after taking the 16th pill of your third pack is not unusual. Many women may experience breakthrough bleeding or spotting during the first few months of starting a new contraceptive pill as their bodies adjust to the hormones. This can be more pronounced if you have switched from one contraceptive to another, as your body may take time to adapt to the new hormone levels.
As for the effectiveness of Yaz as a contraceptive, it remains effective as long as you are taking it correctly. This means taking the pill at the same time every day and not missing any doses. Breakthrough bleeding does not typically indicate a decrease in contraceptive effectiveness. However, if you miss a pill or take it late, the risk of unintended pregnancy may increase.
If the spotting continues or becomes heavy, or if you have any other concerning symptoms such as severe abdominal pain or unusual discharge, it is advisable to consult your healthcare provider. They can assess whether the spotting is a normal side effect or if it might indicate a need for a different contraceptive method or further evaluation.
In summary, experiencing some spotting while on Yaz is generally considered normal, especially in the early months of use. Your contraceptive effectiveness should remain intact as long as you adhere to the prescribed regimen. If you have ongoing concerns or symptoms, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for personalized advice and support.
