Abnormal bowel movements

Recently, I have been experiencing abnormal bowel movements that are not smooth.
Previously, my stools were normal, golden yellow, and had little odor.
However, lately, they have been wet, sticky, and very foul-smelling, with a strange orange-red color.
Sometimes, there are streaks of blood, and I frequently feel discomfort in my abdomen.
I have a history of hemorrhoids and anal fissures, and after the fissure healed, there are small lumps at the anal opening.
I have seen a doctor and applied medication, and since then, I haven't felt much discomfort.
I am unsure if this is bleeding from hemorrhoids or a warning sign of colorectal cancer.
Thank you, doctor.

Blood in the stool, along with changes in gastrointestinal function and bowel habits, as well as alterations in stool characteristics, are all abnormal symptoms.
Possible diagnoses range from hemorrhoids to other serious gastrointestinal diseases, and the severity should not be taken lightly.
It is recommended to visit a hospital's gastroenterology or surgical outpatient department for further examination and treatment.

Abnormal bowel movements can be a source of concern, especially when accompanied by changes in color, consistency, and the presence of blood. Based on your description, it appears that you are experiencing several symptoms that warrant further investigation.
Firstly, the changes in your stool from a normal golden color to a sticky, foul-smelling, and orange-red hue can indicate a variety of gastrointestinal issues. Normal stool is typically brown due to the presence of bile, and any significant change in color can suggest alterations in digestion or absorption. For instance, orange or red stools may be linked to dietary factors, such as the consumption of certain foods (like beets or food coloring), or they could indicate a more serious condition affecting the digestive tract.

The presence of blood in your stool is particularly concerning. Blood can appear in stool for various reasons, including hemorrhoids (which you mentioned having), anal fissures, or more serious conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulitis, or even colorectal cancer. Given your history of hemorrhoids and anal fissures, it is possible that these could be the source of the bleeding, especially if you have been straining during bowel movements. However, the combination of symptoms you are experiencing, including the changes in stool consistency and color, as well as abdominal discomfort, should not be overlooked.

It is also important to consider the "meatball-like" growth you mentioned near the anal area. This could be a thrombosed hemorrhoid or a skin tag resulting from previous fissures or hemorrhoids. While these are typically benign, any new growth or change in the area should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Given your symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination, a review of your medical history, and possibly diagnostic tests such as a colonoscopy or imaging studies. These tests can help rule out serious conditions and provide clarity on the cause of your symptoms.

In the meantime, consider the following general recommendations to help manage your symptoms:
1. Dietary Adjustments: Increase your fiber intake through fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to help regulate bowel movements. Staying well-hydrated is also essential.

2. Avoid Straining: If you experience pain during bowel movements, try to avoid straining, as this can exacerbate hemorrhoids and fissures.

3. Over-the-Counter Treatments: For hemorrhoids, topical treatments or sitz baths may provide relief. However, consult your doctor before starting any new treatment.

4. Monitor Symptoms: Keep a record of your bowel habits, including frequency, consistency, color, and any accompanying symptoms. This information can be helpful for your healthcare provider.

5. Seek Support: If you are experiencing anxiety or distress regarding your symptoms, consider discussing these feelings with a mental health professional.

In conclusion, while some of your symptoms may be related to benign conditions like hemorrhoids or anal fissures, the presence of blood and changes in stool characteristics necessitate a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to addressing any underlying issues effectively. Please do not hesitate to reach out to a doctor for a comprehensive assessment. Your health and well-being are paramount.
