Having a sexual relationship with a boyfriend but feeling completely indifferent?

Hello Doctor: My menstrual cycle has always been regular, but it has become irregular since I started college, and it's been about six months.
Recently, I visited a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and was diagnosed with hormonal imbalance.
I have had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend twice, and we used condoms both times.
The first time I had intercourse was my first experience, but I did not bleed or feel anything.
The second time was also completely sensationless.
During intercourse, I felt wetness in my lower body and had some sensation when using my fingers, but when my boyfriend penetrated, I felt absolutely nothing.
My boyfriend's genitalia is of normal size.
I would like to know if there is something wrong with my body.
Thank you for answering my question :)

Hello, based on your description, it is difficult to assess your physiological and psychological condition.
I recommend consulting with an obstetrician-gynecologist and a psychiatrist to arrange for examinations to check for any abnormalities in both your physical and mental health.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health, Dr.
Zhang.

Understanding the lack of sensation during intercourse can be a complex issue that involves various physiological, psychological, and hormonal factors. Based on your description, it seems that you have been experiencing irregular menstrual cycles and have been diagnosed with hormonal imbalances. This context is crucial in understanding your sexual health and sensation during intercourse.

Firstly, hormonal imbalances can significantly affect sexual function and sensation. Hormones such as estrogen and progesterone play vital roles in sexual arousal and lubrication. Estrogen, in particular, is essential for maintaining the health of vaginal tissues and enhancing sensitivity. If your hormone levels are disrupted, it may lead to decreased vaginal lubrication, altered sensitivity, and even discomfort during intercourse. This could explain the lack of sensation you are experiencing when your partner penetrates.

Additionally, psychological factors can also contribute to the sensation experienced during intercourse. Anxiety, stress, or even the emotional context of the relationship can impact arousal and sexual pleasure. If you are feeling anxious about the experience, it may inhibit your body's natural responses, leading to a lack of sensation. It's important to create a comfortable and relaxed environment during sexual activity, as this can enhance arousal and sensitivity.

Another aspect to consider is the physical condition of your pelvic floor muscles. Tight or tense pelvic floor muscles can lead to discomfort and reduced sensation during penetration. Engaging in pelvic floor exercises, such as Kegel exercises, may help improve muscle tone and enhance sexual sensation. Consulting with a healthcare provider or a physical therapist specializing in pelvic health can provide you with tailored exercises and strategies to address this issue.

Furthermore, the experience of not feeling any sensation during penetration, despite having lubrication and feeling aroused otherwise, could also indicate a condition known as vaginismus. This condition involves involuntary muscle contractions in the pelvic floor, which can make penetration painful or difficult and may lead to a lack of sensation. If this is a concern, discussing it with a healthcare provider can help determine the best course of action.

It is also worth noting that the first sexual experience can be particularly anxiety-inducing, and the pressure to perform or feel a certain way can lead to a disconnect between physical arousal and emotional response. It’s essential to communicate openly with your partner about your feelings and experiences, as this can foster a supportive environment that may enhance your sexual experiences in the future.

In summary, the lack of sensation during intercourse can stem from hormonal imbalances, psychological factors, physical conditions, or a combination of these elements. It is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider, such as a gynecologist or a sexual health specialist, who can conduct a thorough evaluation of your hormonal levels, discuss your sexual health concerns, and provide appropriate guidance or treatment options. Addressing these factors holistically can lead to improved sexual experiences and overall well-being.
