I would like to ask about missing a dose of birth control pills and taking one dose of Amoxicillin 500mg on the same day?

Hello Doctor, I would like to ask about the issue of missing a dose of the contraceptive pill.
My last menstrual period started on February 28.
I took the pill on March 17 at 11 PM, and I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend on March 18.
I forgot to take the pill on March 19, and on that day, I also took Amoxicillin.
I took two pills on March 20 to make up for the missed dose.
Is there a chance of pregnancy in this situation? I understand that Amoxicillin may interact with the contraceptive pill.
I had already finished one pack before this, and this month I am on the second pack.
Thank you, Doctor.
Note: The doctor I consulted previously told me that I have a progesterone deficiency and need to receive regular injections at the hospital.

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are low, so it's best to take preventive measures beforehand.
If your period is more than a week late, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

Missing birth control pills can indeed increase the risk of unintended pregnancy, especially if you have unprotected intercourse during the time when you missed a pill. In your case, you mentioned that you missed the pill on March 19 after having unprotected sex on March 18. This is a critical factor because missing a pill can lead to a drop in hormone levels that prevent ovulation, thus increasing the chances of pregnancy if you have intercourse during that time.

Regarding the use of Amoxicillin, there has been some debate about whether antibiotics like Amoxicillin can interfere with the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. While some studies suggest that certain antibiotics may reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills, Amoxicillin is generally not considered one of those antibiotics that significantly affect hormonal contraceptives. However, it is always wise to consult with your healthcare provider about any medications you are taking while on birth control.

In your situation, since you missed a pill and had unprotected sex, there is a possibility of pregnancy. The risk is heightened if you were not consistent with taking your birth control pills. If you are concerned about the possibility of being pregnant, it would be advisable to take a home pregnancy test if your period is late or to consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.

Additionally, since you mentioned having a history of progesterone deficiency and needing regular injections, it is essential to communicate this to your healthcare provider. Hormonal imbalances can affect your menstrual cycle and overall reproductive health, so they may want to monitor your situation closely.

If you are worried about the potential for pregnancy, consider using emergency contraception if you are within the appropriate time frame (typically within 72-120 hours after unprotected intercourse). However, it is crucial to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice based on your medical history and current situation.

In summary, missing birth control pills can lead to an increased risk of pregnancy, especially if unprotected sex occurs shortly after a missed pill. While Amoxicillin is not typically known to interfere with birth control pills, it is always best to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider. If you suspect you might be pregnant, taking a pregnancy test or consulting with your doctor would be the next best step.
