Height growth issues?
Hello, doctor.
I am 14 years old (in the second year of junior high), and I am a girl.
Since entering junior high, my height has been growing particularly slowly; I am currently between 164 and 165 cm.
I would like to know if it is still possible for me to reach around 170 cm.
I have heard that height is greatly influenced by genetics; my father is 190 cm tall, and my mother is 163 cm.
Are there any other methods I can use to increase my height? P.S.
I recently started jumping rope every day.
Does this help with growing taller? Thank you!

Height is closely related to genetics, but adequate nutrition and appropriate exercise can also contribute to the potential for growth.

More Info
At 14 years old, you are still within the growth phase of your life, and there is a possibility that you can grow taller. The average growth spurt for girls typically occurs around the onset of menstruation, which can vary significantly from person to person. Since you mentioned that your father is 190 cm and your mother is 163 cm, you have a genetic predisposition to be taller, which is a positive factor in your growth potential.
Height is influenced by a combination of genetic factors and environmental factors, including nutrition, physical activity, and overall health. Here are some tips that may help you maximize your growth potential:
1. Nutrition: A balanced diet is crucial for growth. Ensure that you are consuming adequate amounts of protein, calcium, vitamins, and minerals. Protein is essential for the growth and repair of tissues, while calcium is vital for bone health. Foods rich in protein include lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy products, and legumes. Calcium can be found in dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified foods. Additionally, vitamins D and K play significant roles in bone health, so consider foods like fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified cereals.
2. Physical Activity: Engaging in regular physical activity is beneficial for growth. Activities that promote stretching and strengthening of the muscles, such as swimming, basketball, and jumping rope, can stimulate the growth plates in your bones. Jumping rope, which you mentioned you have started doing, is an excellent exercise as it encourages flexibility and can help improve your posture, which may make you appear taller.
3. Sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for growth, especially during your teenage years when growth hormone levels peak during sleep. Aim for 8-10 hours of quality sleep each night. Establishing a regular sleep schedule and creating a conducive sleep environment can help improve your sleep quality.
4. Posture: Maintaining good posture can also affect how tall you appear. Slouching can compress your spine, making you seem shorter than you are. Practice standing and sitting up straight, which can help you maximize your height.
5. Avoid Growth Stunting Factors: Certain factors can hinder growth, such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and poor dietary habits. Avoiding these can help you reach your full height potential.
6. Consult a Healthcare Professional: If you have concerns about your growth or if you notice any unusual patterns, it may be beneficial to consult a healthcare professional. They can assess your growth progress and may perform tests, such as a bone age assessment, to determine if your growth plates are still open.
In conclusion, while genetics play a significant role in determining your height, there are several lifestyle factors you can control that may help you reach your desired height. By focusing on a balanced diet, regular physical activity, sufficient sleep, and good posture, you can create an environment that supports your growth. Keep in mind that growth varies from person to person, and it's essential to be patient and allow your body to develop naturally. Good luck, and keep up with your jump rope practice!
