After circumcision, the penis may feel sticky?

I have had a circumcision for over two months, and the wound has completely healed.
However, I feel a sticky sensation on my penis when I urinate, especially on the red area where the foreskin used to be.
It doesn't feel the same as before when I had the foreskin.
Is this normal?

Hello, theoretically, two months after surgery, the wound should be healed.
However, if you have a complete phimosis (meaning the glans could not be retracted prior to surgery), there may be an adjustment period.
The inner foreskin may also take some time to return to normal.
If you still have concerns, you can consult your surgeon.
Thank you.

After circumcision, it is not uncommon for patients to experience a variety of sensations as they heal. The sticky sensation you are describing, particularly around the glans (the head of the penis), can be attributed to several factors related to the healing process and the changes that occur after the removal of the foreskin.

Firstly, after circumcision, the glans is exposed for the first time, which can lead to a change in its sensitivity and texture. The skin on the glans is typically softer and more sensitive than the skin covered by the foreskin. As the area heals, it may produce natural secretions that can create a sticky feeling, especially if there is any residual moisture or if the area is not completely dry after urination. This sensation can also be exacerbated by the presence of any healing tissue or scabs that may still be present, even if the outer wound appears healed.

Moreover, the redness you are noticing could be a sign of irritation or inflammation. It is essential to maintain proper hygiene in the area to prevent any buildup of smegma (a combination of dead skin cells, oils, and other bodily secretions) that can occur when the foreskin is removed. Regular cleaning with mild soap and water, and ensuring the area is thoroughly dried, can help alleviate this sticky sensation.

If the sticky feeling persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, swelling, or unusual discharge, it may be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can assess whether there is any underlying issue, such as an infection or an abnormal healing process.
In terms of recovery, it is essential to follow any post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon. This may include avoiding certain activities that could irritate the area, such as vigorous sexual activity or excessive friction from clothing.
In summary, while a sticky sensation after circumcision can be normal due to the changes in the skin and healing process, maintaining good hygiene and monitoring for any concerning symptoms is crucial. If you have any doubts or if the sensation is bothersome, seeking medical advice would be a prudent step to ensure everything is healing correctly.
