Can removable dentures be repaired?

I currently have a removable denture made of resin.
Recently, while eating, it fell out and I accidentally bit down on it, causing a slight separation between the resin and the denture connection.
Is there still a chance for repair?

Dear Mr.
CC: Hello! Regarding removable dentures, they should be repairable unless the metal framework is fractured.
Please communicate more with your dentist! Thank you! Wishing you safety! Sincerely, Dr.

When it comes to removable dentures made of resin, the good news is that they can often be repaired after damage, depending on the extent of the damage. In your case, where the connection between the resin and the denture has separated, there is a possibility of repair. However, the success of the repair will depend on several factors, including the nature of the damage, the condition of the remaining denture, and the skill of the dental professional performing the repair.

Understanding the Repair Process
1. Assessment of Damage: The first step is to have a dentist assess the extent of the damage. If the denture is merely separated at the connection point, it may be a straightforward repair. However, if there are cracks or breaks in the resin itself, the repair process may be more complicated.

2. Repair Techniques: Dentists typically use a special dental adhesive or resin to reattach the separated parts. In some cases, they may need to add additional material to strengthen the area. If the damage is extensive, the dentist might recommend creating a new denture.

3. Material Considerations: Resin is a common material used in dentures due to its lightweight and aesthetic qualities. However, it can be prone to wear and tear. If your denture has been repaired multiple times or shows signs of significant wear, your dentist may suggest considering a new set of dentures.

Importance of Professional Repair
While it might be tempting to attempt a DIY repair at home, it is crucial to seek professional help. Attempting to fix the denture yourself could lead to further damage or improper alignment, which can affect your bite and overall oral health. A dentist will ensure that the repair is done correctly and that the denture fits comfortably.

Aftercare and Maintenance
Once your denture is repaired, it’s essential to follow proper care and maintenance guidelines to prolong its lifespan. Here are some tips:
- Handle with Care: Always handle your dentures gently to avoid dropping them. Consider using a soft cloth or towel when cleaning or handling them to cushion any falls.

- Regular Cleaning: Clean your dentures daily with a soft brush and a cleaner specifically designed for dentures. Avoid using regular toothpaste, as it can be abrasive and damage the resin.

- Routine Check-ups: Schedule regular dental check-ups to ensure that your dentures fit properly and to address any issues before they become significant problems.

Conclusion
In summary, your removable resin dentures can likely be repaired after the damage you've described. It is essential to consult with a dental professional who can assess the damage and recommend the best course of action. Remember that proper care and maintenance are crucial to extending the life of your dentures. If you find that repairs are becoming frequent or if the denture is no longer fitting well, it may be time to discuss options for a new set with your dentist.
