Missed menstruation?

My period was supposed to arrive around February 4, but as of today (February 22), it still hasn't come.
I had sexual intercourse on January 24, 25, and 30, and I used condoms throughout.
A few days ago, I bought a pregnancy test, and it came back negative.
I personally don't feel any early pregnancy symptoms.
Could this be due to the stress from my previous exams, or am I really pregnant?

Niming, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2017/02/22

Could this delay be due to the stress from the academic exams, or am I really pregnant? Answer: It is likely due to the stress from the exams rather than pregnancy.

When it comes to missed periods, the first thing to consider is the possibility of pregnancy, especially if you've engaged in sexual activity. However, since you've used condoms consistently and have already taken a pregnancy test that came back negative, it is less likely that you are pregnant.
There are several factors that can contribute to a missed period, and stress is one of the most common culprits. Stress can significantly impact your hormonal balance, which in turn can affect your menstrual cycle. When you experience high levels of stress, your body may produce more cortisol, a hormone that can interfere with the normal functioning of the reproductive hormones. This disruption can lead to delayed or missed periods.

In your case, you mentioned that you have been under considerable stress due to academic pressures, which could very well be the reason for your missed period. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as changes in sleep patterns, diet, and exercise can also play a role in menstrual irregularities. If you've been experiencing changes in your routine, such as staying up late or not eating properly, these could also contribute to your situation.

It's also worth noting that menstrual cycles can vary from month to month. Factors such as illness, travel, or even changes in your environment can cause fluctuations in your cycle. If your period is only a few days late, it may not be a cause for concern, especially if you have a history of regular cycles.

If your period does not arrive within a week or two, it would be advisable to take another pregnancy test to confirm the results. If the test is still negative and your period does not come, it may be beneficial to consult with a healthcare provider. They can help determine if there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed, such as hormonal imbalances or other health concerns.

In summary, while the possibility of pregnancy cannot be entirely ruled out, it seems more likely that stress and lifestyle factors are contributing to your missed period. Monitoring your symptoms and maintaining open communication with a healthcare provider can help you navigate this situation effectively. Remember, it's essential to take care of your mental and emotional well-being, especially during stressful times, as this can have a significant impact on your overall health.
