Urinary problems
Hello, doctor.
Yesterday, I had to hold my urine for a long time because I couldn't find a restroom.
Eventually, I had no choice but to use a not very clean restroom (it was a seated toilet, and I didn't have direct contact, but there might have been some splashing).
After urinating, I started to feel a burning and painful sensation in my lower abdomen and near the urethral opening.
This continued into this morning, and I've gone to the restroom two or three times, each time experiencing a strong burning sensation after urination.
I would like to know if this could be a urinary tract infection or if I might have contracted something from the unclean restroom.
I'm very concerned because I've been uncomfortable after several trips to the bathroom.
I hope you can advise me on what to do.
Thank you!

Hello: It is not necessarily caused by the restroom; holding in urine for a long time can also lead to infection.
Drink plenty of water, limit spicy and irritating foods, and avoid alcohol.
If there is no improvement after one day, seek medical attention.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
It sounds like you're experiencing some distressing urinary symptoms that could be indicative of a urinary tract infection (UTI) or another underlying issue. The burning sensation you describe in your lower abdomen and near the urethra after using a less-than-clean restroom is concerning and warrants further investigation.
Possible Causes of Your Symptoms
1. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): UTIs are common and can occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract. Symptoms often include a burning sensation during urination, frequent urges to urinate, and sometimes abdominal pain. Given that you mentioned using a public restroom, it's possible that exposure to bacteria could have led to an infection.
2. Irritation or Inflammation: The discomfort could also be due to irritation from the toilet seat or cleaning chemicals used in the restroom. If the toilet was not clean, there might have been exposure to irritants that could cause localized inflammation.
3. Cystitis: This is inflammation of the bladder, which can be caused by infections or irritants. Symptoms include pain in the lower abdomen and a burning sensation during urination.
4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Some STIs can cause similar symptoms, including burning during urination. If you are sexually active, this is something to consider.
5. Other Conditions: Conditions such as interstitial cystitis or bladder stones can also cause similar symptoms. These are less common but can lead to chronic discomfort.
Recommended Actions
1. Hydration: Drink plenty of water to help flush out your urinary system. This can sometimes alleviate mild symptoms and help clear out any potential infection.
2. Avoid Irritants: Stay away from caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, and acidic foods, as these can irritate the bladder and exacerbate your symptoms.
3. Seek Medical Attention: Given that your symptoms have persisted and are causing you concern, it is crucial to see a healthcare provider. They may perform a urinalysis to check for signs of infection, blood, or other abnormalities in your urine. Depending on the results, they may prescribe antibiotics if a UTI is confirmed.
4. Follow-Up: If you are prescribed medication, ensure you complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. If symptoms persist after treatment, further evaluation may be necessary to rule out other conditions.
5. Practice Good Hygiene: In the future, try to use clean restrooms and practice good hygiene to minimize the risk of infections. If you find yourself in a situation where you must use a public restroom, consider using a disposable toilet seat cover or toilet paper to create a barrier.
Conclusion
Your symptoms are concerning and could indicate a urinary tract infection or another urinary issue. It is essential to consult a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Early intervention can help prevent complications and alleviate your discomfort. Remember, taking care of your urinary health is important, and seeking help is a proactive step towards feeling better.
