Prostate and sexual function issues?
Hello, I have been experiencing prostatitis recently and have visited a urologist several times.
Although the tests came back normal and I have been taking antibiotics, I would like to ask the following questions:
1.
Does frequent use of antibiotics have any impact on health or sexual function? Will taking them too many times render them ineffective in the future?
2.
Can prostatitis affect sexual function or libido?
3.
Over the past year or two, I have noticed a tendency for a decrease in urine flow, with a sensation of incomplete emptying, and sometimes I experience dribbling at the end.
Is this due to prostate issues or a sign of sexual dysfunction? What kind of tests or treatments should I pursue? Are there specific foods that may help?
4.
Regarding sexual function, in my twenties, I found it quite easy to achieve an erection with just a bit of mental stimulation or sexual desire.
Currently, my erections are still relatively normal, but I have experienced situations where I felt the urge to ejaculate but held back.
Although I can hold back, I tend to lose my erection afterward.
Does this count as premature ejaculation? Should I seek treatment?
5.
During erections, I feel that the hardness is still normal, but if I try to change positions or get distracted, I can easily lose my erection.
Additionally, I have noticed that using lubricants can diminish sensation.
Does this indicate erectile dysfunction? What treatment options does Western medicine offer, and what kind of tests should be conducted?
Thank you.

Hello: 1) It may not have a significant impact, but it could gradually become ineffective.
2) Yes, there is mutual influence.
3) You should first consult a urologist at the hospital; the doctor will provide an explanation.
4) If you can complete sexual intercourse, it is not premature ejaculation, but it is still advisable to get checked.
5) Based on your description, there is an issue with sexual function, and it is recommended to seek medical attention.
Generally, at a young age, such problems are uncommon.
Western medicine will conduct blood tests, prescribe medication, and provide lifestyle education.
Larger hospitals (medical centers) may offer more detailed examinations and tests.
Wishing you good health.

Prostate pain, also known as prostatitis, can significantly impact sexual function and overall quality of life. Your concerns about the relationship between prostate pain, antibiotic use, and sexual health are valid and warrant a thorough discussion. Let's address your questions one by one.
1. Antibiotic Use and Its Effects: Frequent use of antibiotics can lead to several health issues, including antibiotic resistance, which may render certain antibiotics ineffective in the future. Overuse can also disrupt the balance of gut microbiota, potentially leading to gastrointestinal issues and other complications. In terms of sexual function, while antibiotics themselves do not directly affect libido or erectile function, the underlying conditions they are treating (like prostatitis) can. If you find yourself needing antibiotics frequently, it may be worth discussing with your healthcare provider about alternative treatments or preventive measures.
2. Impact of Prostate Pain on Sexual Function: Prostate pain can indeed affect sexual function and libido. The discomfort associated with prostatitis can lead to anxiety about sexual performance, which can further exacerbate erectile dysfunction (ED). Pain during ejaculation or even the anticipation of pain can diminish sexual desire. It's essential to communicate openly with your partner and healthcare provider about these issues to find effective coping strategies.
3. Urinary Symptoms and Their Relation to Prostate Health: The symptoms you describe, such as weakened urine flow and post-void dribbling, can be associated with prostate issues, including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or prostatitis. These symptoms can also indicate early signs of sexual dysfunction. A urodynamic study or a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test may be recommended to evaluate your prostate health further. Maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids can support prostate health. Staying hydrated and avoiding irritants like caffeine and alcohol may also help.
4. Erectile Function and Premature Ejaculation: The ability to maintain an erection during sexual activity can be affected by various factors, including anxiety, physical health, and prostate issues. The experience of losing an erection when changing positions or becoming distracted is common and does not necessarily indicate erectile dysfunction. However, if you find that this happens frequently, it may be beneficial to consult with a healthcare provider. Premature ejaculation is characterized by ejaculation that occurs with minimal sexual stimulation before the individual wishes. If this is a concern for you, discussing it with a healthcare provider can help determine if treatment is necessary.
5. Erectile Hardness and Lubrication: It’s not uncommon for individuals to experience a decrease in sensation or difficulty maintaining an erection when using lubricants. This can be due to various factors, including the type of lubricant used or psychological factors. If you find that lubricants consistently reduce sensation, you might want to experiment with different types or consider using less lubricant. If you continue to experience difficulties, it may be worthwhile to consult a urologist who can provide a comprehensive evaluation and discuss treatment options, which may include medications, therapy, or lifestyle changes.
In summary, prostate pain can significantly affect sexual function and overall well-being. It’s crucial to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and concerns. A multidisciplinary approach, including lifestyle modifications, psychological support, and medical treatment, can help manage your symptoms effectively. If you have ongoing concerns about your sexual health, consider seeking a specialist in sexual medicine or urology for a more tailored approach to your situation.
