Red spots inside the foreskin after masturbation?

Hello doctor, I recently noticed red spots appearing at the junction of the glans and the penis, covered by the foreskin, specifically on the right side.
They are not painful or itchy.
I only discovered them when I pushed back the foreskin while using the restroom.
I would like to ask if this is balanitis or if it is just a result of excessive DIY activity?

Hello: If there is inflammation and cleanliness is not maintained, it can worsen, the area can expand, and there may even be discharge.
However, in most cases of DIY treatment, it typically does not reach the point of skin breakdown.
You can observe the situation, but if it worsens, you should seek medical attention.
Wishing you good health.

The appearance of red spots under the foreskin after masturbation can be concerning, but it is important to understand the potential causes and implications. Based on your description, the red spots located at the junction of the glans (the head of the penis) and the shaft, particularly on the right side, could be attributed to several factors.

1. Friction or Trauma: If the masturbation was vigorous or involved excessive friction, it could lead to minor trauma or irritation of the skin. This can manifest as redness or small spots, which may not be painful or itchy. Such irritation is usually self-limiting and should resolve with time and gentle care.

2. Balanitis: This is an inflammation of the glans and can occur due to various reasons, including poor hygiene, irritation from soaps or lotions, or infections. Balanitis can present with redness, swelling, and sometimes discharge. If the redness persists or is accompanied by other symptoms like discharge or a foul smell, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional.

3. Allergic Reaction: Sometimes, the skin can react to certain products used during masturbation, such as lubricants or soaps. If you have recently changed any products, consider whether they could be causing an allergic reaction.

4. Infection: While less likely given the absence of pain or itching, infections such as yeast infections or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can also cause redness and spots. If you have had unprotected sexual contact, it is essential to consider this possibility.

5. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans. They are a normal anatomical variant and are not a cause for concern.

In your case, since the spots are not painful or itchy, it is likely that they are due to minor irritation from masturbation. However, it is crucial to monitor the situation. If the redness persists for more than a few days, worsens, or if you develop any additional symptoms (such as pain, itching, discharge, or swelling), it would be wise to seek medical advice from a healthcare provider or a urologist.

Self-Care Recommendations:
- Gentle Hygiene: Maintain good hygiene by gently washing the area with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh soaps or products that could irritate the skin.

- Avoid Irritants: If you suspect that a product may be causing irritation, discontinue its use.

- Moisturize: If the skin appears dry or irritated, consider using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to soothe the area.

- Avoid Further Trauma: Give your body time to heal by avoiding vigorous masturbation or sexual activity until the redness resolves.

In conclusion, while the red spots you are experiencing may be due to minor irritation from masturbation, it is essential to remain vigilant. If symptoms change or worsen, do not hesitate to seek professional medical advice for a thorough evaluation and appropriate treatment.
