Frequent urination, dry throat, and feeling cold?
Hello: Since last night, I have been experiencing frequent urination (approximately every half hour).
Although I feel the urge to urinate, the volume is not significant, and the urine is clear.
This morning, I started to feel dryness in my throat; despite drinking a lot of water, there has been no improvement.
Additionally, I have had the urge to have a bowel movement (five times in total).
Initially, the stool volume was normal, but later it was just a small, thin strip.
By the afternoon, I no longer felt the urge to defecate.
I also started to feel chills in the afternoon, and there is a dull sensation in my lower back.
A few days ago, during a school health check, the doctor mentioned an issue with my urine test (but did not explain it clearly, only advising against staying up late).
I have had a habit of staying up late for the past one to two years (until around one or two in the morning).
I would like to ask what this issue might be.
Thank you, doctor!

Based on your description, it is likely that you have a urinary tract infection.
Given the accompanying lower back pain, there is a high possibility of a urinary tract infection combined with acute pyelonephritis.
It is recommended to drink plenty of water, rest, and maintain a regular routine.
If you continue to experience fever or significant discomfort, it is advisable to consult with an infectious disease specialist, nephrologist, or urologist.
Thank you for your inquiry.

Frequent urination, dry throat, chills, and gastrointestinal discomfort can be concerning symptoms that may indicate several underlying health issues. Based on your description, it is essential to consider a few potential causes and the appropriate steps to take.
Firstly, the frequent urination you are experiencing, especially if it occurs every half hour, could be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI) or another urinary issue. UTIs are common and can cause increased urgency and frequency of urination, often accompanied by discomfort or a burning sensation. However, you mentioned that the urine is clear and that you have not experienced significant pain, which may suggest that the infection is not severe or that it could be related to other factors.
The dry throat you are experiencing could be due to dehydration, especially if you have been drinking a lot of water without relief. Dehydration can occur for various reasons, including excessive sweating, not consuming enough fluids, or even certain medications. Additionally, if you have been experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms, such as the urge to have a bowel movement and then only passing small amounts, this could indicate a gastrointestinal infection or irritation, possibly related to dietary choices or stress.
The chills you mentioned, along with the sensation of pressure in your lower back, could indicate a systemic response to an infection or inflammation. It is not uncommon for infections, including UTIs or gastrointestinal infections, to cause systemic symptoms like chills and malaise. The pressure in your lower back could also be related to kidney issues, especially if there is an underlying infection affecting the kidneys.
Given your history of late-night habits and potential sleep deprivation, it is also important to consider how lifestyle factors may be impacting your health. Chronic sleep deprivation can weaken the immune system, making you more susceptible to infections and other health issues. It can also exacerbate feelings of anxiety and stress, which can manifest in physical symptoms.
In light of these symptoms, here are some recommendations:
1. Seek Medical Attention: It is crucial to consult a healthcare professional as soon as possible. They may recommend a urinalysis to check for signs of infection, blood, or other abnormalities in your urine. Additionally, a physical examination can help assess any potential kidney issues or other underlying conditions.
2. Stay Hydrated: Continue to drink plenty of fluids, but also consider electrolyte solutions if you are experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms. This can help replenish lost fluids and minerals.
3. Monitor Symptoms: Keep a diary of your symptoms, including the frequency of urination, any changes in bowel habits, and the severity of your throat dryness. This information can be helpful for your healthcare provider.
4. Rest and Recovery: Prioritize rest and try to establish a more regular sleep schedule. Sleep is essential for recovery and maintaining a healthy immune system.
5. Dietary Considerations: Pay attention to your diet and avoid foods that may irritate your gastrointestinal system, such as spicy or fatty foods, and consider incorporating more fiber to help with bowel regularity.
6. Follow-Up: If symptoms persist or worsen, follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend further testing or referrals to specialists if necessary.
In summary, while your symptoms could be indicative of a urinary tract infection or gastrointestinal issue, it is essential to seek medical evaluation to determine the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment. Taking care of your overall health, including hydration, nutrition, and sleep, will also support your recovery.
