The functions of Yuekang?
I am currently taking two tablets of Yuankang every night before bed.
Since switching from Ubiqin to this medication last year, I lost 6 kilograms due to decreased appetite while on Ubiqin, but now my appetite has returned to normal and I have gained 10 kilograms in the past six months.
I would like to know if this is normal.

Hello: Upon review, the ingredient in "Youbiqing" is Sertraline, which may occasionally cause weight loss in patients.
The ingredient in "Yuekang" is Venlafaxine, and its side effects include endocrine effects, with a weight loss incidence rate of up to 47%.
It is recommended to examine any significant changes in daily habits and to inform the physician about concerns regarding weight gain during the follow-up visit.
Additionally, lipid-related tests (such as cholesterol and triglycerides) should be included in the follow-up items to assess whether it is appropriate to continue the medication.
Wishing you health and happiness!

More Info
Weight gain after switching medications, such as from Sertraline (the active ingredient in "憂必晴") to Venlafaxine (the active ingredient in "悦康"), can be a common occurrence and is not unusual. Each medication affects individuals differently, and their side effects can vary significantly.
Sertraline, an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), is known to sometimes cause weight loss, particularly in the early stages of treatment. This is often due to its effects on appetite and metabolism. On the other hand, Venlafaxine, which is classified as an SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor), can lead to weight gain in some patients. The reasons for this can include changes in appetite, metabolic rate, and even hormonal balances that the medication may influence.
In your case, it seems that after switching to Yuekang, your appetite normalized, which could explain the weight gain you experienced over the past six months. It is essential to consider that weight fluctuations can also be influenced by various lifestyle factors, including diet, physical activity, and overall health. If you have returned to a more regular eating pattern after a period of reduced appetite, this could contribute to the increase in weight.
It is also important to monitor your overall health while on medication. If you are concerned about the weight gain, it would be wise to discuss this with your healthcare provider. They can help assess whether the weight gain is a side effect of the medication or if other factors are at play. Additionally, they may suggest lifestyle modifications or alternative treatments if necessary.
In terms of managing weight while on medications like Venlafaxine, it is beneficial to adopt a balanced diet and regular exercise routine. Engaging in physical activity can help mitigate weight gain and improve overall well-being. If you find it challenging to manage your weight, consider consulting a nutritionist or a dietitian who can provide personalized advice based on your specific situation.
Lastly, it is crucial to remember that any changes in medication should always be done under the supervision of a healthcare professional. If you have concerns about the side effects or efficacy of your current medication, do not hesitate to reach out to your doctor for guidance. They can provide you with the best advice tailored to your health needs and help you navigate any changes in your treatment plan.
In summary, weight gain after switching to Yuekang can be considered normal, especially if your appetite has returned to normal. However, it is essential to monitor your health and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider to ensure that your treatment plan remains effective and appropriate for your needs.
