How to eliminate odor after ejaculation?

Hello Doctor, I have been engaged for the past six months and have been having unprotected intercourse with my fiancé.
However, I am very troubled by an issue: the odor that persists after ejaculation.
Even if I wash immediately or use the restroom, there is still an unpleasant smell that lingers the next day.
No matter how much I wash, it doesn’t help, and I have been checked for infections with no findings.
The odor takes at least three days to diminish, which is really distressing for me since my job requires me to wear skirts.
Every time I stand up, sit down, or take off my underwear to use the restroom, that smell seems to waft out, and I am really afraid that my colleagues or friends will notice.
It’s embarrassing, and the smell is so bad it’s like there’s a dead mouse down there.
The information I found online suggests that washing the vulva after intercourse is sufficient, as the vagina cleans itself, but following this advice has not improved the odor at all.
I want to know if it’s uncommon to have an odor after ejaculation.
Am I unusual? In my situation, would rinsing with pure water help, or do I need a cleansing solution? Are there any other methods to improve the odor? Please help me, thank you.

Hello, based on your symptom description, it is recommended to maintain a light diet, have a regular daily routine, and keep the perineal area clean and dry.
Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing.
Taking a sitz bath may help alleviate symptoms.
However, you should consult a physician if you notice any of the following changes in vaginal discharge: 1.
An abnormal increase in volume that causes discomfort, requiring the use of panty liners.
2.
Changes in the color and consistency of the discharge.
3.
An unpleasant odor; normal vaginal discharge typically has little to no smell, and the presence of an odor usually indicates a disruption in the vaginal health environment, allowing for the growth of pathogens.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

More Info

Experiencing an unpleasant odor after intercourse can be distressing, and it's understandable that you're seeking solutions. The issue you're facing is not uncommon, and there are several factors that could contribute to this situation. Let's explore the potential causes, management strategies, and self-care recommendations that may help alleviate the odor.

Potential Causes of Odor After Intercourse
1. Natural Vaginal Flora: The vagina has a natural balance of bacteria, which can sometimes produce odors, especially after sexual activity. The introduction of semen can alter this balance temporarily, leading to a change in odor.

2. Semen Composition: Semen itself has a distinct smell, which can linger after intercourse. Factors such as diet, hydration, and overall health can influence the smell of semen.

3. Hygiene Practices: While the vagina is self-cleaning, external hygiene is important. If there is residual semen or sweat, it can contribute to odor.
4. Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations during your menstrual cycle can affect vaginal discharge and odor.
5. Infections: Although you mentioned that you have been checked for infections, it's worth noting that some infections may not always present with obvious symptoms. Bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections can sometimes cause odor without other noticeable signs.

Management Strategies
1. Post-Intercourse Hygiene: After intercourse, it's beneficial to urinate and wash the external genital area with mild soap and water. Avoid douching, as it can disrupt the natural flora and potentially worsen the odor.

2. Hydration and Diet: Staying well-hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet can help reduce the intensity of odors. Foods like garlic, onions, and certain spices can contribute to body odor, including vaginal odor.

3. Cotton Underwear: Wearing breathable cotton underwear can help reduce moisture and odor. Avoid synthetic fabrics that can trap heat and moisture.

4. Vaginal Probiotics: Some studies suggest that probiotics may help maintain a healthy vaginal flora. Consider discussing this option with your healthcare provider.

5. Avoiding Irritants: Scented soaps, lotions, and feminine hygiene products can irritate the vaginal area and disrupt the natural balance. Stick to unscented products.

Self-Care Recommendations
1. Warm Water Rinse: While it's generally not necessary to rinse internally, a gentle rinse with warm water can help cleanse the external area. Avoid using harsh soaps or douches.

2. Regular Check-Ups: Continue to have regular gynecological check-ups to monitor your vaginal health. If the odor persists, consider discussing it further with your healthcare provider.

3. Communication with Partner: If this issue is affecting your intimacy, consider discussing it with your partner. Open communication can help alleviate any anxiety you may have about the situation.

4. Consider a pH Test: If the odor persists, you might want to consider a pH test of your vaginal environment, which can help identify any imbalances that may be contributing to the odor.

Conclusion
It's important to remember that experiencing an odor after intercourse is not an uncommon issue, and you're not alone in this. While self-care practices can help, if the odor persists or worsens, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They can help rule out any underlying conditions and provide tailored advice based on your specific situation. Your comfort and health are paramount, and addressing this issue can lead to a more enjoyable intimate experience.
