Addressing Post-Surgery Concerns: Issues with Foreskin Surgery - Plastic Surgery

Prepuce issues

Hello Doctor: 1.
After the circumcision surgery, a doctor diagnosed me with symptoms of a subcutaneous cyst, but why did the doctor advise me to consult the original surgeon for the procedure? 2.
There is too much remaining inner foreskin and frenulum, resulting in a noticeable color difference that looks unattractive.
Additionally, there is a centipede-like scar below the frenulum, and the frenulum has not yet connected to the penile sutures.
The scar on the front of the penis is still diagonal.
Are there any doctors willing to perform excision or skin grafting to meet my requirements? Would it be strange to have such thoughts?

Niming, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2019/07/21

Dr. Zhou Hongzhang reply Plastic Surgery

1.
Postoperative wound issues are best understood by the primary surgeon who performed the procedure.

2.
Scar reconstruction can sometimes be quite challenging.
Most of the time, new scars replace old ones, and the appearance may not achieve perfection.
It is advisable to consult with a plastic surgeon at a medical center.

Addressing concerns after foreskin surgery, particularly regarding complications such as cysts, scarring, and aesthetic outcomes, is essential for patient satisfaction and mental well-being. It’s understandable to have questions and concerns after such a procedure, especially when the results do not meet your expectations or when complications arise.

1. Post-Surgery Cyst Symptoms: If you are experiencing symptoms of a cyst after your foreskin surgery, it is crucial to consult with the original surgeon who performed the procedure. This recommendation is typically made because the original surgeon is familiar with the surgical technique used, your specific case, and any potential complications that may arise from the surgery. They will have the best understanding of the anatomy involved and can provide the most informed assessment and treatment options. If the cyst is indeed related to the surgery, the original surgeon will be in the best position to address it appropriately.

2. Concerns About Scarring and Aesthetic Outcomes: It’s not uncommon for patients to be concerned about the appearance of scars after surgery. If you feel that there is excessive tissue remaining, or if the scars are particularly noticeable or unsightly, it is reasonable to seek a second opinion. Surgeons often have different approaches to managing scars and may offer solutions such as scar revision surgery or skin grafting if deemed necessary.
The presence of a noticeable color difference between the inner foreskin and the surrounding skin, as well as the appearance of the frenulum (the band of tissue on the underside of the penis), can be distressing. It’s important to communicate these concerns clearly with your healthcare provider. They can assess whether the appearance is within the normal range of healing or if further intervention is warranted.

3. Surgical Options for Aesthetic Improvement: Considering additional procedures such as scar revision or skin grafting is not unusual. Many patients seek to improve the aesthetic outcomes of their surgeries, and it is perfectly valid to express your desires for a more satisfactory appearance. Surgeons are accustomed to discussing cosmetic concerns and can provide options based on their expertise and your specific situation.
4. Feeling Strange About Your Concerns: It is not strange to have these thoughts or desires for improvement. Many patients experience similar feelings after surgery, especially when the results do not align with their expectations. Open communication with your healthcare provider is key. They are there to help you navigate your concerns and can provide reassurance or options to address your worries.

In conclusion, it is essential to have an open dialogue with your healthcare provider about your concerns. If you feel that your needs are not being met, seeking a second opinion can be beneficial. Remember, your comfort and satisfaction with the surgical outcome are important, and there are options available to address your concerns. Always prioritize your health and well-being, and do not hesitate to advocate for yourself in your healthcare journey.
