Post-operative questions regarding penile correction surgery?
I underwent penile correction surgery on March 2nd, utilizing the technique of circumcision with a folded white membrane - 16 points.
Today marks the fifth day post-surgery.
The pain has significantly decreased, but I still have some questions:
1.
The biggest concern post-surgery is the issue of nocturnal erections.
I wake up in pain due to erections four to five times a night.
I would like to know if the growth and healing of the white membrane could be affected by frequent erections, potentially leading to suture breakage or other complications.
2.
The doctor advised that I need to use gauze and elastic bandages to dress the wound (wrapping the entire penis) for one month post-surgery.
I would like to inquire about the tightness of the elastic bandage.
Besides helping to control bleeding, could it also impact the growth of the white membrane? Will the angle of the penis three months post-surgery be significantly altered due to external pressure during the healing period?
3.
Up to today, urination has been increasingly normal; however, I have noticed that the urine stream occasionally bifurcates.
Is this considered a normal phenomenon?

Post-surgery concerns after penile correction surgery, particularly following a circumcision and white membrane folding procedure, can be quite common. It’s essential to address these concerns to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal healing. Here are insights based on your questions:
1. Nighttime Erections and Healing: Experiencing nighttime erections, also known as nocturnal penile tumescence, is a normal physiological response. However, after surgery, these erections can lead to discomfort or pain, especially if they occur frequently. The concern about whether these erections could disrupt the healing of the white membrane or cause suture failure is valid. Generally, while erections can cause some tension on the surgical site, they should not significantly impede the healing process if the surgery was performed correctly. The body has a remarkable ability to heal, and the tissues involved in the surgery will typically adapt to the changes. However, if the pain is severe or if you notice any unusual symptoms, it is crucial to consult your surgeon.
2. Use of Bandages and Compression: The recommendation to use gauze and elastic bandages post-surgery is to provide support, reduce swelling, and minimize bleeding. The tightness of the bandage is important; it should be snug enough to provide support but not so tight that it restricts blood flow. Excessive pressure could potentially affect the healing process and the growth of the white membrane. It’s essential to follow your surgeon's instructions regarding the application of the bandage. If you have concerns about the tightness or if you experience numbness or excessive pain, you should reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance.
3. Urination Changes: The observation of a bifurcated urine stream can occur after penile surgery and is often due to swelling or changes in the urethra's structure. This phenomenon can be temporary as the tissues heal and may resolve as swelling decreases. However, if this condition persists or is accompanied by pain, difficulty urinating, or any other concerning symptoms, it is advisable to consult your surgeon. They may want to assess the surgical site to ensure that there are no complications, such as scarring or strictures, that could affect urination.
In summary, while some discomfort and changes in function are expected after penile correction surgery, it is crucial to monitor your symptoms closely. Pain management, adherence to post-operative care instructions, and regular follow-ups with your surgeon are key components of a successful recovery. If any symptoms worsen or if you have persistent concerns, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. Your health and comfort should always be the priority during the recovery process.
