Post-Surgery Concerns After Penile Curvature Correction: What to Expect - Urology

Postoperative issues following penile curvature surgery?

Hello Doctor, I have a question.
It has been two months since I underwent penile correction surgery.
My erections have been normal since the surgery, and the initial pulling sensation has disappeared.
However, there is still some swelling beneath the glans, and I feel some adhesions in the foreskin from the middle of the shaft to the base.
The surgeon advised me to avoid sexual activity for the first month, but after that, I have attempted masturbation multiple times, yet I do not experience the same sensations as before the surgery, and I have not been able to ejaculate.
Could this be related to the simultaneous circumcision? Or is it possible that I have not fully recovered yet? Is this normal? If I have not fully recovered, could you please advise me on how much longer it might take? I would appreciate any professional advice and a more detailed explanation.

Hello, I am glad to assist you.
I am not sure what you mean by your feelings.
There should naturally be differences before and after the surgery.
Generally, it takes about six months for complete recovery.
However, sexual activity can typically resume normally after one month.
As for the sensations you mentioned, they are certainly different before and after the surgery.
Additionally, regarding the issue of ejaculation, it may be that after the surgery, you still have psychological burdens and fear of the wound reopening, which could prevent you from fully stimulating yourself and achieving ejaculation.
Of course, this is just speculation, and I recommend discussing it with your surgeon.
The Department of Urology, Taitung Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare, cares about you.

If you have any doubts about this response, feel free to continue the discussion.

After undergoing penile curvature correction surgery, it is not uncommon to experience a range of post-operative symptoms and concerns, especially two months post-surgery. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing some swelling around the glans (the head of the penis) and a sensation of tightness or adhesion in the skin from the shaft to the base. These symptoms can be concerning, but they are not unusual in the recovery process.

Firstly, the swelling you are experiencing around the glans may be due to several factors, including the surgical trauma from the procedure itself, the healing process, and possibly the residual effects of any swelling that can occur post-surgery. It is important to note that swelling can take time to resolve completely, and it may vary from person to person. Generally, most swelling should subside within a few weeks to a couple of months, but in some cases, it can take longer.

The sensation of tightness or adhesion you mentioned could be related to the healing of the skin and underlying tissues. If the surgery involved any alteration to the foreskin (as you mentioned that a circumcision was performed), it is possible that the healing process is affecting the sensitivity and the way the skin moves. Scar tissue can form during the healing process, which may contribute to a feeling of tightness or reduced sensation.
Regarding your concerns about sexual function, it is not uncommon for individuals to experience changes in sensation or difficulty achieving ejaculation after such surgeries. This can be attributed to several factors, including the healing of nerve endings, changes in blood flow, and the psychological aspects of adjusting to the changes in your anatomy. It is also possible that the surgical procedure itself may have altered the way the nerves and blood vessels are positioned, which can affect sensation and ejaculation.

As for the timeline for recovery, while many patients may start to feel more normal around the two-month mark, complete healing can take several months. It is essential to give your body the time it needs to heal fully. If you are still experiencing significant discomfort, tightness, or changes in sexual function after a few more months, it would be advisable to follow up with your surgeon or a urologist. They can assess your healing progress and determine if any further intervention is necessary.

In the meantime, here are some recommendations to aid your recovery:
1. Follow-Up Appointments: Keep all scheduled follow-up appointments with your surgeon to monitor your healing progress. If you have any concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to them sooner.

2. Gentle Care: Be gentle with the area during your recovery. Avoid any activities that may cause trauma or excessive friction, including vigorous sexual activity or masturbation, until you have been cleared by your doctor.

3. Hydration and Nutrition: Maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated to support your body’s healing process.

4. Patience: Understand that recovery can take time, and it is normal to experience fluctuations in sensation and function as your body heals.

5. Communication: If you have ongoing concerns about your sexual function or any other symptoms, communicate openly with your healthcare provider. They can provide reassurance and guidance tailored to your specific situation.

In conclusion, while it is normal to have concerns after surgery, especially regarding sexual function and sensation, it is crucial to give your body time to heal. If symptoms persist or worsen, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. Your healthcare provider is there to support you through your recovery and address any concerns you may have.
