Glans issues
I have noticed many small white bumps of varying sizes on the glans and the inner side of the foreskin over the past few days.
I'm not sure what they are, and sometimes they itch.
Could this be a sexually transmitted infection or something else?

Hello: If there is sexual activity, there is a possibility of sexually transmitted infections; if there is no sexual activity, it is more likely to be skin lesions.
If there is no redness, but the number increases and blisters appear, it is advisable to keep the area dry and clean while observing.
If there has been sexual activity, it is recommended to consult a urologist at a hospital.
Please practice safe sex.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding white bumps on the glans (the head of the penis) can be concerning, especially when accompanied by symptoms like itching. It's essential to differentiate between various potential causes to determine whether these bumps are a sign of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or another condition.
One common cause of white bumps on the glans is pearly penile papules. These are small, harmless, dome-shaped bumps that typically appear around the corona of the glans. They are a normal anatomical variation and are not associated with any disease or infection. Pearly penile papules are often mistaken for warts or other lesions, but they are benign and do not require treatment.
Another possibility is Fordyce spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the glans or shaft of the penis. These spots are sebaceous glands that are not associated with hair follicles and are completely normal. They do not indicate any health issues and are not contagious.
However, if the white bumps are accompanied by itching, redness, or discomfort, it could indicate a different condition. One potential cause is a fungal infection, such as candidiasis (thrush), which can lead to white patches and irritation. This is more common in individuals who are uncircumcised, as the warm, moist environment under the foreskin can promote fungal growth.
Another concern could be genital warts, which are caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). These warts can appear as small, flesh-colored or white bumps and may be itchy or uncomfortable. If you suspect that the bumps may be warts, it is crucial to consult a healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Additionally, conditions like balanitis (inflammation of the glans) can cause irritation and lead to the formation of white bumps or patches. Balanitis can result from poor hygiene, irritants, or infections, and it often requires treatment to alleviate symptoms and address the underlying cause.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, it is essential to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination, take a detailed medical history, and possibly conduct tests to determine the exact cause of the bumps. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial, especially if an STI is suspected.
In summary, while white bumps on the glans can be benign, such as pearly penile papules or Fordyce spots, the presence of itching or discomfort warrants further investigation. Conditions like fungal infections, genital warts, or balanitis may require treatment. Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice and management options tailored to your specific situation.
