The height and position of the testicles?
Hello, doctor! I sometimes notice that my left testicle hangs lower than the right one, and occasionally it moves back and forth, but sometimes it appears normal.
Is this a concern? Additionally, today I experienced slight pain at the base of my penis on the right side, but it went away after I got up and walked around.
Could sitting for too long cause this? Thank you!

Hello: 1) Due to muscle contractions, the position of the testicles may change.
2) If the penis is not experiencing continuous pain, it could be related to nerve issues; as long as you avoid sitting for prolonged periods, maintain a normal diet, and engage in moderate exercise.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
The position of the testicles can vary from time to time, and it is quite common for one testicle to hang lower than the other. Typically, the left testicle is positioned lower than the right in many men. This asymmetry is normal and is due to the anatomy of the scrotum and the spermatic cord. The scrotum is designed to regulate the temperature of the testicles, which is crucial for sperm production. When the body is warm, the scrotum relaxes, allowing the testicles to hang lower; conversely, when it is cold, the scrotum contracts, pulling the testicles closer to the body for warmth.
However, if you notice significant changes in the position of your testicles or if you experience pain, it is essential to pay attention to these symptoms. The sudden pain you mentioned at the base of the penis could be related to several factors, including muscle strain, nerve irritation, or even issues related to the testicles themselves, such as epididymitis or testicular torsion.
Epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis, often caused by infection, and can lead to pain and swelling in the affected testicle. Testicular torsion, on the other hand, is a medical emergency where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off blood supply to the testicle. This condition typically presents with sudden, severe pain and requires immediate medical attention.
Sitting for prolonged periods can lead to discomfort in the groin area, especially if there is pressure on the nerves or blood vessels in that region. This discomfort may also be exacerbated by certain activities or positions that strain the pelvic muscles. If the pain is mild and resolves quickly, it may not be a cause for concern. However, if it persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as swelling, redness, or fever, it is advisable to seek medical evaluation.
In summary, while variations in testicular position are generally normal, any associated pain or significant changes should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. It is crucial to monitor your symptoms and consult a doctor if you have concerns about your testicular health or if you experience persistent pain. Regular check-ups can help ensure that any potential issues are addressed early, maintaining your overall reproductive health.
