Prepuce and glans issues?
Hello, about three days ago I visited a urologist because I felt some pain at the tip of my foreskin.
After the consultation, the doctor mentioned that my frequent washing, combined with excessive pulling during masturbation, had caused some inflammation due to washing twice a day.
He prescribed an eye ointment, although I’m not sure why it was an eye ointment, but I have been applying it since then.
I would like to ask if it’s normal that I still occasionally feel a slight stinging sensation.
Should I really avoid using the handheld shower for now? If I don’t wash, could that lead to other issues? The doctor also mentioned keeping the area dry; is it appropriate to use a hairdryer for that? Additionally, I’m a bit worried because I found information online about penile cancer having similar symptoms, such as stinging or burning sensations under the foreskin.
However, the doctor said that my symptoms were due to the increased washing and pulling, and he assured me that the likelihood of having such a disease is zero.
He advised me to rest and not wash so frequently, as many cases of balanitis and urethritis can present similar symptoms.
He told me not to scare myself by looking things up online and that I should only be concerned if there are lumps or hard masses.
I would like to know your opinion on this matter.
Is it really as safe as the doctor said, or am I just overly worried? I haven’t been sleeping well these past few days.

Hello: Rinsing is fine as long as it’s not for too long, too hot, or too vigorous.
Do not use a hairdryer; just pat dry with a towel.
A physician will notice any abnormalities during a check-up for penile cancer, so there’s no need to worry.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Understanding issues related to the foreskin and glans can be quite concerning, especially when experiencing discomfort or pain. Based on your description, it seems that your symptoms are likely due to irritation from excessive washing and possibly from vigorous handling during masturbation. This can lead to a condition known as balanitis, which is inflammation of the glans (the head of the penis) and can be exacerbated by poor hygiene or over-washing.
Causes of Your Symptoms
1. Over-washing: Washing the genital area too frequently can strip away natural oils and disrupt the skin's protective barrier, leading to irritation and inflammation. The skin in this area is sensitive, and excessive washing can cause dryness and discomfort.
2. Mechanical irritation: Engaging in vigorous masturbation or pulling on the foreskin can also lead to irritation. This mechanical stress can cause inflammation and pain.
3. Infection: While your doctor has indicated that your symptoms are not indicative of a serious condition, infections such as yeast infections or bacterial infections can also cause similar symptoms. However, these are less likely given your doctor's assessment.
Care Tips
1. Reduce Washing Frequency: It is advisable to reduce the frequency of washing to once a day or as needed. When you do wash, use mild soap and warm water, and ensure you rinse thoroughly to avoid soap residue.
2. Avoid Irritation: Try to avoid any activities that may cause further irritation, such as vigorous masturbation or tight clothing that may rub against the area.
3. Drying: Keeping the area dry is important. If you choose to use a hairdryer, ensure it is on a low setting and held at a safe distance to avoid burns. Alternatively, you can gently pat the area dry with a clean towel after washing.
4. Topical Treatments: If your doctor prescribed an ointment, it is important to follow their instructions. While it may seem unusual to use an eye ointment, some formulations can be effective for skin irritation due to their soothing properties. If you have concerns about the medication, discuss them with your doctor.
When to Seek Further Help
You mentioned concerns about penile cancer, which is understandable given the anxiety that can arise from symptoms like pain or burning. However, your doctor has assessed that the likelihood of such a condition is very low based on your symptoms. It is crucial to monitor for any changes, such as:
- Persistent pain or discomfort that does not improve with care.
- Development of lumps or hard areas.
- Changes in the appearance of the skin, such as discoloration or unusual growths.
- Any discharge that is not normal.
If you notice any of these symptoms, it would be wise to return to your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Conclusion
It sounds like you are experiencing a common issue that can often be managed with simple changes in hygiene practices and care. While it is natural to feel anxious about health concerns, it is important to trust your healthcare provider's assessment and follow their advice. If your symptoms persist or worsen, do not hesitate to seek further medical advice. Remember, maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider can help alleviate concerns and ensure you receive the appropriate care.
