Abnormal semen color?
About two weeks ago, my semen started to turn yellow-green.
Later, due to a loss of appetite, I went to the hospital for an examination and was diagnosed with urethritis and kidney inflammation.
After being hospitalized and discharged, I still have the same yellow-green semen, which has been ongoing for about three weeks.
What could be the cause? Thank you.

Hello: If it is confirmed that there is inflammation of the urethra or kidneys, it is possible.
If there is also yellow-green discharge from the urethra, you should inform your doctor.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Abnormal semen color, particularly a yellow-green hue, can be concerning and may indicate underlying health issues. The change in color of semen can be attributed to several factors, including infections, inflammation, or other medical conditions. In your case, since you have already been diagnosed with urethral and kidney inflammation, it is likely that these conditions are contributing to the abnormal color of your semen.
1. Infections: One of the most common causes of a change in semen color is an infection. This could be a sexually transmitted infection (STI) such as gonorrhea or chlamydia, or it could be a urinary tract infection (UTI) that has spread to the reproductive system. Infections can lead to the presence of pus or other inflammatory cells in the semen, resulting in a yellow or green tint.
2. Prostatitis: Inflammation of the prostate gland, known as prostatitis, can also cause changes in semen color. This condition can be acute or chronic and may present with other symptoms such as pelvic pain, difficulty urinating, or painful ejaculation. Prostatitis can be caused by bacterial infections or may be non-bacterial in nature.
3. Ejaculatory Duct Obstruction: An obstruction in the ejaculatory duct can lead to the accumulation of fluid and may cause changes in the color and consistency of semen. This can occur due to various reasons, including infections, cysts, or anatomical abnormalities.
4. Diet and Lifestyle Factors: While less common, certain dietary choices or lifestyle factors can influence semen color. For example, excessive consumption of certain foods or supplements may lead to changes in semen appearance. However, this is usually not the primary cause of a significant color change.
5. Dehydration: Dehydration can concentrate the fluids in the body, including semen, which may alter its color. However, this is typically a temporary condition and would not usually cause a persistent change in color.
Given that you have been experiencing this yellow-green coloration for three weeks, it is essential to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend further testing, such as a semen analysis or cultures, to identify any potential infections or abnormalities. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause, and it is crucial to address any infections promptly to prevent complications.
In summary, the yellow-green color of your semen is likely related to the inflammation and potential infection you are experiencing. It is important to seek medical attention to determine the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment. Ignoring these symptoms could lead to more severe health issues, so proactive management is key.
