Glans issues
Hello Doctor, I am 18 years old and have recently been able to fully retract my foreskin.
Besides the increased sensitivity of the glans, I experience a sharp pain beneath the glans during erections, making it impossible for me to masturbate.
I have visited a major hospital and the doctor said this is a normal phenomenon, but I am still a bit worried.
Additionally, after retracting the foreskin, I feel that the urine stream has become weaker (it feels like I can urinate, but there is a blockage) and the urine tends to split.
Is this really normal?

Hello: Recently, I have been able to fully retract my foreskin.
Besides the increased sensitivity of the glans, I experience a sharp pain beneath the glans during erections, making masturbation impossible.
I have consulted a doctor at a major hospital, who said this is a normal phenomenon.
They mentioned that if the pain persists for 2-3 months, I should seek medical attention after circumcision.
Additionally, I have noticed that the flow of urine seems reduced (it feels like I can urinate, but there is a blockage), and my urine tends to split easily.
Is this really normal? --> It is normal.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding glans sensitivity and urinary changes after circumcision can be a complex topic, especially for young men who have recently undergone the procedure. It’s important to address your concerns regarding sensitivity, pain during erections, and changes in urinary flow.
Firstly, it’s common for the glans (the head of the penis) to become more sensitive after circumcision. This is because the glans, which was previously covered by the foreskin, is now exposed to air and friction, leading to heightened sensitivity. This increased sensitivity can sometimes result in discomfort or pain, especially during erections. The sensation of pain or a prickling feeling you describe may be a normal response as your body adjusts to the new exposure. Over time, many men find that this sensitivity decreases as the glans becomes accustomed to its new environment.
Regarding the pain you experience during erections, it’s essential to monitor this symptom. If the pain persists or worsens, it may be worth seeking a second opinion from a urologist. They can assess whether there are any underlying issues, such as scarring or sensitivity that might require treatment. In some cases, topical anesthetics or other interventions can help alleviate discomfort.
As for the urinary changes you mentioned, such as a decreased flow rate and the sensation of blockage, these can also be common after circumcision. The urethral opening may have been altered during the procedure, which can affect how urine flows. A narrower stream or splitting of the urine can occur, especially if there is any swelling or sensitivity in the area. However, if you notice significant changes in your urinary habits, such as pain during urination, blood in the urine, or a persistent feeling of incomplete emptying, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional. These symptoms could indicate an infection or other complications that may need to be addressed.
In summary, while some sensitivity and changes in urinary flow can be normal after circumcision, it’s essential to remain vigilant about your symptoms. If discomfort persists or if you have any concerns about your urinary function, don’t hesitate to seek further medical advice. It’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health. Regular follow-ups with a healthcare provider can help ensure that any potential issues are identified and managed appropriately.
