Penile issues?
Hello doctor, I recently discovered a few black spots on my body and visited a dermatologist.
The doctor said they are moles, but I also have a small spot on my chest and near the base of my penis.
Although the dermatologist used a light similar to a magnifying glass and said it was nothing to worry about, I had noticed the spot on my penis about a year ago but only went to see a doctor now.
I thought the raised spot on my hand might be concerning, but the doctor mentioned that both flat and raised moles can be normal, and I should just keep an eye on them as long as they don't suddenly grow larger or change color or bleed.
However, is it really okay for the spot on my penis? I can't understand how a mole could appear there.
Additionally, I want to ask about my glans; I noticed today that it looks a bit wrinkled and not completely smooth.
Is this normal? Thank you for addressing these two questions.
I took a photo right after showering, and the black mole is that small spot.
Is it true that I don't need to worry about it and just observe? It might have been there for a longer time, and I just didn't notice.

Hello, based on the appearance in the photo and your description, it does seem like a typical mole.
I recommend monitoring it for now, unless there are any significant changes that would require further evaluation.
Thank you for your inquiry.

When it comes to skin spots, especially on sensitive areas like the penis, it's essential to understand that variations in skin appearance can be quite normal. The presence of moles (nevi) or spots on the skin is common, and many individuals have them in various locations on their bodies, including the genital area.
From your description, it sounds like you have consulted a dermatologist who has examined the spots and deemed them benign. This is reassuring, as most moles are harmless. However, it is crucial to monitor any changes in size, shape, color, or texture. If a mole becomes asymmetrical, has irregular borders, changes color, or starts to bleed, these could be signs of potential issues, and you should seek medical advice promptly.
The skin on the penis, including the glans (the head), can have a different texture compared to other areas of the body. It is not uncommon for the skin to appear wrinkled or have a slightly uneven texture. This can be due to several factors, including natural variations in skin elasticity, the presence of sebaceous glands, or even the effects of friction and moisture. As long as there are no accompanying symptoms such as pain, itching, or unusual discharge, these variations are typically normal.
In terms of the spots you mentioned, it is essential to remember that skin can develop moles or spots due to a variety of reasons, including genetics, sun exposure, and hormonal changes. The fact that you have noticed these spots over time and that they have not changed significantly is a good sign. Regular self-examinations of your skin can help you become familiar with what is normal for you, making it easier to spot any changes.
For your peace of mind, here are some general guidelines for skin monitoring:
1. Self-Examination: Regularly check your skin for any new spots or changes to existing ones. This includes looking for asymmetry, irregular borders, multiple colors, or changes in size.
2. Moisturization: Keeping the skin moisturized can help maintain its elasticity and overall health. Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer suitable for sensitive skin.
3. Sun Protection: If you are exposed to sunlight, use sunscreen to protect your skin from UV damage, which can lead to the development of new moles or changes in existing ones.
4. Consultation: If you have concerns about any spots or changes in your skin, do not hesitate to consult a dermatologist. It’s better to be cautious, especially in sensitive areas.
5. Awareness of Symptoms: Be aware of any symptoms that may accompany skin changes, such as itching, pain, or bleeding, and seek medical advice if they occur.
In conclusion, while the presence of spots on the penis can be concerning, it is often a normal occurrence. As long as you are vigilant about monitoring any changes and have consulted with a healthcare professional, you can manage your concerns effectively. If you notice any significant changes or have further questions, don't hesitate to reach out to your dermatologist for further evaluation.
