Post-circumcision care

Hello doctor, I am about 20 days post circumcision.
Approximately two-thirds of the stitches have fallen out, but today I noticed that one area where the stitches are still intact has split open, revealing some white tissue inside.
There is no bleeding, but it seems there is a bit of serous fluid.
When I have an erection, it appears that some blood seeps to the surface, and the tissue turns red.
Will this have any impact, or can I just let it heal gradually? Thank you for your response.

Based on your description, it seems that not addressing the issue may not be a problem, but it will take longer to heal.
However, if you are unable to manage it on your own, it is still necessary to consult a urologist to discuss treatment options.

Post-circumcision healing can vary significantly from person to person, and it's not uncommon to have concerns about the recovery process. Based on your description, it appears that you are experiencing some typical post-operative changes, but there are a few important considerations to keep in mind.

Firstly, the presence of white tissue where the stitches are located is often a sign of healing tissue, which can be normal. This tissue, known as granulation tissue, forms as part of the healing process. However, if you notice that the area is red and there is some fluid, it could indicate inflammation or irritation. The fact that you are experiencing some bleeding during an erection is also noteworthy, as this could suggest that the area is still sensitive and not fully healed.

In general, after circumcision, it is expected that the stitches will dissolve or fall out on their own within a few weeks, and the area will gradually heal. However, if you notice any of the following, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider:
1. Increased Redness or Swelling: If the redness spreads or if you notice significant swelling, this could indicate an infection or other complications.

2. Persistent Bleeding: While some minor bleeding can occur, especially if the area is irritated, persistent or heavy bleeding should be evaluated by a doctor.

3. Foul Odor or Discharge: Any unusual discharge or a foul smell could be a sign of infection and should be addressed promptly.

4. Severe Pain: If you experience severe pain that is not relieved by over-the-counter pain medications, it may warrant further investigation.

5. Fever or Chills: These symptoms could indicate an infection that requires medical attention.

In your case, since you mentioned that the area is red and there is some fluid, it would be wise to monitor the situation closely. If the redness worsens, if you notice more bleeding, or if you develop any of the symptoms listed above, you should reach out to your healthcare provider for an evaluation. They may want to examine the area to ensure that there are no complications such as infection or improper healing.

In the meantime, here are some general tips for post-circumcision care:
- Keep the Area Clean: Gently wash the area with mild soap and water. Avoid any harsh soaps or irritants.

- Avoid Irritation: Wear loose-fitting underwear to minimize friction and irritation on the healing tissue.

- Monitor for Changes: Keep an eye on the healing process and note any changes in color, swelling, or discharge.

- Follow Up: If you have a follow-up appointment scheduled, make sure to attend it so your doctor can assess your healing progress.

In summary, while some changes are normal during the healing process after circumcision, it is crucial to remain vigilant for signs of complications. If you have any doubts or concerns, do not hesitate to contact your healthcare provider for personalized advice and reassurance. Your health and comfort are paramount, and it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to post-operative care.
