The urethra is discharging a clear white secretion?
Recently, I suddenly noticed that there is a clear discharge coming from the urethral opening during normal times.
It has no odor and is slightly sticky.
There is no unusual sensation during urination; it doesn't hurt or burn.
However, when I press on the bottom of the scrotum, there is a slight itching sensation.
I'm unsure what this could be a symptom of.
Please help clarify, thank you.

Hello! Urethral discharge is a type of mucus secreted by the glands surrounding the urethra in response to sexual stimulation, typically amounting to about 1cc and usually clear in color.
If there is an increase in discharge, it may be caused by urethritis.
Based on your description, the absence of pain suggests that the urethra may be irritated.
Best wishes for your health from Dr.

More Info
Understanding clear urethral discharge can be a concern for many individuals, especially when it appears suddenly or without any accompanying symptoms. In your case, you mentioned that the discharge is transparent, odorless, and slightly sticky, with no pain or burning sensation during urination. You also noted a mild itchiness when pressing on the base of the scrotum. Let’s explore the potential causes and implications of these symptoms.
Possible Causes of Clear Urethral Discharge
1. Normal Physiological Discharge: It's important to note that the male urethra can produce a small amount of clear discharge as part of normal physiological function. This discharge can be a result of pre-ejaculatory fluid, which is produced by the Cowper's glands (bulbourethral glands) and serves to lubricate the urethra. This is typically clear and may have a slightly sticky consistency.
2. Urethritis: Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra that can be caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as gonorrhea or chlamydia. While these infections often present with more pronounced symptoms, such as pain during urination or a more significant discharge, some individuals may experience mild symptoms or atypical presentations. If the discharge persists or if you develop additional symptoms, it would be prudent to seek medical evaluation.
3. Prostatitis: Inflammation of the prostate gland can also lead to urethral discharge. Prostatitis may present with symptoms such as pelvic pain, difficulty urinating, or discomfort in the genital area. The itchiness you described could be related to this condition, especially if there is any inflammation affecting surrounding tissues.
4. Allergic Reactions or Irritation: Sometimes, irritation from soaps, lotions, or laundry detergents can cause mild inflammation and discharge. If you have recently changed any personal care products, this could be a contributing factor.
5. Fungal or Yeast Infections: Though less common in males, fungal infections can occur and may lead to discharge and itchiness. These infections often present with other symptoms, such as redness or irritation.
When to Seek Medical Attention
While clear urethral discharge can be benign, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. You should consider seeking medical attention if:
- The discharge persists or increases in volume.
- You develop additional symptoms, such as pain during urination, fever, or swelling in the genital area.
- The itchiness becomes more severe or is accompanied by redness or rash.
Diagnostic Approach
If you decide to consult a healthcare provider, they may perform a physical examination and possibly recommend laboratory tests, such as:
- Urinalysis to check for signs of infection or inflammation.
- Urethral swabs to test for STIs or other pathogens.
- Blood tests if systemic symptoms are present.
Conclusion
In summary, while clear urethral discharge can be a normal occurrence, it is essential to remain vigilant about any changes in your symptoms. Given the mild itchiness you described, it may be beneficial to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent potential complications and ensure your overall health. Remember, maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider about any concerns is crucial for your well-being.
