Regarding the estrogen issues related to the use of Ismoprazole enteric-coated tablets?
Hello Doctor, my menstrual period was from July 20 to July 26, lasting seven days.
However, on the morning of August 5, I noticed brown discharge, and since the amount was a bit more in the evening (but not as much as during my period), I decided to visit the clinic.
The doctor said there was no ovulation and observed a follicle measuring about 1.3 mm, indicating that we are waiting for it to mature.
The diagnosis was hormonal imbalance, and I was prescribed Estromon (Premarin) 0.625 mg and a hemostatic medication.
The doctor mentioned that August 6 to August 8 is a fertile window for conception, but I found online that Estromon (Premarin) may cause fetal deformities.
Should I give up on trying to conceive this month, or is it still possible to try? Thank you!

Dr. Lin Manying reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
WINNI: Hello, there is no evidence suggesting that taking Estromon during ovulation causes teratogenic effects.

When considering the use of Estromon (Premarin) while trying to conceive, it's essential to understand both the medication's purpose and the implications of hormonal imbalances. Estromon is a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that contains conjugated estrogens, primarily used to alleviate symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and osteoporosis.
In your case, it appears that you are experiencing irregular menstrual cycles and potential hormonal imbalances, which can complicate conception. The presence of brown discharge and the absence of ovulation, as noted by your doctor, suggest that your hormonal levels may not be optimal for conception at this time. The doctor’s recommendation to take Estromon aims to help regulate your hormonal levels, potentially improving your chances of ovulation and conception.
Regarding your concern about the risk of congenital disabilities associated with Estromon, current medical literature does not indicate that taking conjugated estrogens like Premarin during the early stages of pregnancy poses a significant risk of birth defects. However, it is crucial to avoid taking any medication during pregnancy unless prescribed by a healthcare provider. If you are actively trying to conceive, it is advisable to discuss your plans with your doctor. They may suggest monitoring your cycle closely and adjusting your treatment plan as necessary.
The "danger period" mentioned by your doctor refers to the time when you are most fertile, which typically occurs around ovulation. If your doctor has indicated that you may be ovulating soon, it may be a good time to try to conceive. However, if you have concerns about the effects of Estromon on your fertility or potential pregnancy, it is essential to have an open discussion with your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice based on your health history and current treatment.
In addition to hormonal treatments, there are other methods to address hormonal imbalances and improve fertility. Lifestyle modifications, such as maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, and managing stress, can positively impact hormonal health. Some women also explore alternative therapies, such as acupuncture or herbal medicine, which may help regulate menstrual cycles and improve fertility.
In summary, while taking Estromon may help regulate your hormonal levels and potentially improve your chances of conception, it is crucial to consult with your healthcare provider regarding your specific situation. They can guide you on the best course of action, considering your health history and fertility goals. If you are trying to conceive, it is essential to have a clear plan and support from your healthcare team to navigate this journey safely and effectively.
