Urinary issues

Hello doctor, I just had a circumcision a week ago.
Yesterday, I noticed that the urethral opening is red (I've been drinking a lot of water these past few days), but sometimes my urine is still very yellow, while at other times it is clear.
After urinating, I noticed 1 to 2 drops of blood at the urethral opening.
In the past two days, I've urinated about 6 to 7 times, and this situation occurred twice.
I would like to know what this might be.

Hello: The information provided here is for reference only and cannot replace a physician's examination and diagnostic tests.
1) If there is drainage from a wound or if the skin is broken, it may create a false appearance of blood at the urethral opening.
If the wound appears intact and there are no visible breaks in the skin, any blood at the urethral opening should be evaluated by a physician.
2) Some individuals may have a slightly reddish, protruding urethral opening.
If you are concerned, please seek medical evaluation.
3) If you are adequately hydrated and drink plenty of water, your urine color will likely lighten or become clear over time; however, the duration varies from person to person.
In my case, drinking two cups of water may result in lighter urine within 1-2 hours.
Wishing you good health.

Post-circumcision urinary symptoms can be concerning, especially when they involve changes in the appearance of urine or bleeding from the urethral opening. It's important to understand that after a circumcision, the body goes through a healing process, and some symptoms can be expected during this time.
Firstly, the redness at the urethral opening (meatus) you are observing could be a result of irritation or inflammation due to the surgical procedure. It is not uncommon for the area to be sensitive and slightly inflamed as it heals. The presence of blood in the urine or at the urethral opening, especially if it is only a few drops, may also be attributed to minor trauma or irritation from urination, particularly if you are experiencing any discomfort while urinating.

The variation in urine color—from yellow to clear—can be influenced by several factors, including hydration levels. If you have been drinking a lot of water, your urine should ideally be more diluted and appear clearer. However, if you notice that your urine is consistently dark yellow despite increased fluid intake, it could indicate dehydration or other underlying issues that may need to be addressed.

In terms of the bleeding you mentioned, it is essential to monitor the situation closely. A small amount of blood can be normal in the days following circumcision, especially if there has been any irritation or if the area is still healing. However, if the bleeding persists, increases in volume, or is accompanied by significant pain, fever, or other concerning symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly.

Here are some additional considerations and recommendations for your situation:
1. Hydration: Continue to drink plenty of fluids to help keep your urine diluted and to promote healing. This can also help flush out any potential irritants.

2. Hygiene: Maintain good hygiene around the surgical site. Gently clean the area as advised by your healthcare provider, and avoid any harsh soaps or irritants.

3. Pain Management: If you experience discomfort, over-the-counter pain relief medications, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, can be helpful. However, consult with your doctor before taking any medication.

4. Monitoring Symptoms: Keep a close eye on your symptoms. If you notice any significant changes, such as increased bleeding, severe pain, or signs of infection (such as fever, chills, or foul-smelling urine), contact your healthcare provider immediately.

5. Follow-Up: Ensure you attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to assess the healing process and address any concerns you may have.

In summary, while some redness and minor bleeding can be expected after circumcision, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you have any doubts or if your symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. Your health and comfort are paramount, and addressing any concerns early can help prevent complications.

Hello: The symptoms you are experiencing should not be associated with the circumcision procedure. It is recommended that you return for a follow-up appointment. At the very least, a urinalysis should be conducted. Wishing you good health.
