Red spots on the glans penis?

Hello, I recently noticed red spots on my glans, which were slightly itchy but not painful, and there were no other discomforts.
I have not undergone circumcision, but I can normally retract the foreskin for cleaning.
I later visited a doctor, who prescribed a topical medication for me to apply.
I only used the medication for four days initially, thinking it had resolved, but after about two or three days, the symptoms recurred.
I then diligently applied the medication for ten days, confirmed that it was fine, and stopped.
However, after another two or three days, the symptoms returned, this time with only red spots and no itching.
I continued to apply the medication, and over the past few days, the condition has improved.
Although there are no longer red spots, the glans appears slightly wrinkled, and there are still red spots when erect, but they are not painful or itchy.
I make sure to dry myself after using the restroom, wash with plain water during showers, and allow the area to air out afterward.
I have also temporarily stopped masturbating.
I am unsure if the red spots and wrinkling indicate that it has not fully healed.
Should I continue applying the medication?

Hello: 1) Avoid wearing tight underwear and temporarily stick to a light diet.
Consider whether there has been any unsafe sexual behavior.
The presence of red spots indicates that there is still an issue that needs treatment.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

When it comes to red spots on the glans (the head of the penis), there are several potential causes and treatment options to consider. Based on your description, it seems you have experienced recurring red spots that were initially itchy but later became less bothersome. This pattern of symptoms can be indicative of a few different conditions, and it’s important to approach this with a comprehensive understanding of the possible underlying issues.

Possible Causes
1. Irritation or Inflammation: The red spots could be a result of irritation from friction, hygiene products, or even from not being able to fully dry the area after washing. This can lead to a condition known as balanitis, which is inflammation of the glans.
2. Infection: Fungal infections, such as candidiasis (yeast infection), can cause red spots and irritation. Bacterial infections can also lead to similar symptoms. The fact that you experienced itching initially suggests that an infection could have been present.

3. Dermatological Conditions: Conditions like psoriasis or eczema can also manifest as red spots on the glans. These are usually chronic and may require specific treatments.

4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Although you mentioned no pain or other discomfort, it’s still important to rule out STIs, especially if there has been any risk of exposure.

Treatment Options
1. Topical Treatments: It sounds like you have been using a topical medication prescribed by your doctor. It’s crucial to follow the treatment regimen as directed. If you stopped too early, it might not have fully resolved the underlying issue, leading to recurrence.

2. Hygiene Practices: Maintaining good hygiene is essential. Ensure that the area is cleaned gently with water and mild soap, and thoroughly dried afterward. Avoid using harsh soaps or products that could irritate the skin.

3. Avoiding Irritants: If you suspect that certain products or activities (like masturbation) are exacerbating the condition, it might be wise to avoid them temporarily until the symptoms fully resolve.

4. Follow-Up with Your Doctor: Since the symptoms have recurred, it’s advisable to return to your healthcare provider. They may want to reassess the situation, possibly perform tests to rule out infections or other conditions, and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

5. Monitoring Symptoms: Keep an eye on any changes in your symptoms. If you notice increased redness, swelling, or any new symptoms (like pain or discharge), seek medical attention promptly.

Conclusion
In summary, while the red spots on the glans may not be causing significant discomfort, their recurrence suggests that the underlying issue has not been fully addressed. Continuing the prescribed treatment while maintaining good hygiene practices is essential. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, a follow-up with your healthcare provider is crucial for further evaluation and management. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
