Prepuce issues
Doctor, I have a question: When I am not erect, my glans is fully exposed.
If I pull my foreskin back, it quickly retracts and exposes the entire glans again, unless I pull the foreskin back a bit.
Is this normal?

When it comes to foreskin issues and the exposure of the glans (the head of the penis), it's important to understand the anatomy and normal variations that can occur. In many males, especially those who are uncircumcised, the foreskin covers the glans when the penis is flaccid. However, there are variations in how much of the glans is exposed when the penis is at rest.
In your case, if the glans is fully exposed when the penis is not erect, and it quickly returns to that position after you attempt to cover it with the foreskin, this can be considered a normal anatomical variation. The foreskin is designed to retract and cover the glans, but some individuals may have a foreskin that is more retractable or a glans that is less covered due to the natural elasticity of the skin.
However, there are a few factors to consider:
1. Foreskin Mobility: If the foreskin is easily retractable and does not cause pain or discomfort, this is generally not a cause for concern. Some individuals have a more mobile foreskin that can easily slide back and forth.
2. Sensitivity: The glans is typically more sensitive than the shaft of the penis, and exposure to friction or contact can lead to increased sensitivity. If you experience discomfort or irritation from the exposure, it may be worth discussing with a healthcare provider.
3. Phimosis: This condition occurs when the foreskin cannot be easily retracted over the glans. If you have difficulty retracting the foreskin or experience pain when attempting to do so, it may indicate phimosis, which could require medical evaluation.
4. Hygiene: Proper hygiene is essential for uncircumcised males. It's important to clean beneath the foreskin regularly to prevent the buildup of smegma, which can lead to irritation or infection.
5. Consultation with a Specialist: If you have concerns about the appearance of your penis, the mobility of your foreskin, or any discomfort you may be experiencing, it is advisable to consult with a urologist. They can provide a thorough examination and offer guidance tailored to your specific situation.
In summary, while it can be normal for the glans to be exposed when flaccid, individual variations exist. If there are any accompanying symptoms such as pain, irritation, or difficulty with retraction, seeking medical advice is recommended. Understanding your body and its variations is key to maintaining good health and addressing any concerns that may arise.
