Can Outpatient Referrals Lead to Admission at Rehabilitation Centers? - Psychiatry

Can patients directly schedule an admission to the rehabilitation center at your hospital through outpatient services?

I have been receiving treatment at the Tao Therapy Clinic for the past three months.
Previously, I was hospitalized at Shin Kong, Chang Gung, and Songde for acute psychiatric care, but I have not been seen at the Baotherapy Clinic.
Can I still schedule an outpatient appointment? Earlier this year, I heard from your hospital's social worker that there was a better chance of entering a rehabilitation facility from the ward; is that still the case?
Currently, I am taking Liananda, one tablet every night.
Does your hospital have this medication, and are there alternatives with fewer side effects? I am currently living at the Zhongli Rehabilitation Center, and it is unlikely that I can manage my medication on my own if I were to move out or live at home.
Is it necessary to take psychiatric medication every day until the end of life? Are there no other options for assistance? For example, I have read a book discussing the possibility of not taking Western medications and focusing on vitamin B3 therapy.
Is this approach feasible?

Hello: Our rehabilitation center is primarily managed by the social work department.
You can start with an initial consultation at the outpatient clinic, where a physician will assess your condition.
It is best to bring along your past medical records.
After that, a social worker will explain the process to you and discuss whether you are suitable for admission.
Aripiprazole 15 mg is considered a new generation antipsychotic medication, which has fewer side effects compared to traditional ones.
It is recommended to continue taking this medication if you do not experience any side effects, similar to managing chronic conditions like hypertension or diabetes, which require regular medication to maintain control.
I hope this answers your questions :)

Outpatient referrals can indeed lead to admission at rehabilitation centers, but the process and criteria can vary significantly depending on the specific circumstances of the patient and the policies of the rehabilitation facility. In your case, it seems you have been receiving outpatient treatment at a specific facility (桃療) for the past three months, and you have a history of hospitalization at other institutions. This history may play a role in your eligibility for admission to a rehabilitation center.

Typically, rehabilitation centers assess patients based on their medical needs, functional status, and the potential for improvement through rehabilitation. If you have been receiving outpatient care and your condition has not improved sufficiently, your healthcare provider may recommend admission for more intensive rehabilitation services. The social worker's suggestion to transition from inpatient care to a rehabilitation center is a common approach, especially if the patient requires ongoing support but does not need the level of care provided in an acute hospital setting.

Regarding your medication, you mentioned taking Lian Da (立安達), which is commonly prescribed for managing symptoms of mental health conditions. It is important to discuss any concerns about side effects or the necessity of long-term medication with your healthcare provider. While some patients may be able to taper off medications under medical supervision, this decision should be made collaboratively with your doctor, considering the potential risks and benefits.

As for alternative therapies, such as nutritional approaches or vitamin supplementation (like vitamin B3), these can sometimes complement traditional treatments. However, it is crucial to approach these alternatives cautiously and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Not all alternative therapies are supported by robust scientific evidence, and some may interact with prescribed medications or exacerbate symptoms.

In summary, outpatient referrals can lead to admissions at rehabilitation centers, particularly if there is a demonstrated need for more intensive support. It is essential to maintain open communication with your healthcare providers about your treatment plan, medication management, and any alternative therapies you are considering. They can help you navigate these options and ensure that you receive the most appropriate care for your situation.
