Circumcision surgery
I underwent circumcision surgery on March 31.
Three days post-operation, during a follow-up visit, the doctor mentioned that I was not properly tightened, which has resulted in swelling on the left side of the penis.
Now, two weeks later, I have noticed that the pain is due to the curvature of the penis, causing nerve numbness and pain.
Any contact with my underwear triggers numbness and pain.
Last night, I tried to adjust it to a more straight position (slightly to the left), and about ten minutes later, I experienced numbness from my left thigh down to my foot.
Is this normal? When will the numbness and pain in the penis improve? I am currently relying on pain medication for relief.
I would appreciate your assistance in answering these questions.
Thank you!

Hello: The foreskin gun should not cause such sensations.
It is better to consult the surgeon during your follow-up appointment.
Wishing you good health.

After undergoing circumcision surgery, it is not uncommon to experience a range of post-operative complications, including swelling, pain, and changes in sensation. Your situation, where you are experiencing swelling on one side of the penis and pain that radiates down to your thigh and foot, raises several important considerations.
Firstly, the swelling you described could be a result of inadequate closure of the surgical site, which can lead to fluid accumulation (edema) in the area. This is often seen in the early post-operative period and can be exacerbated by movement or pressure on the area, such as from clothing. It is crucial to follow your surgeon's post-operative care instructions closely to minimize complications.
The pain and tingling sensation you are experiencing in your thigh and foot could be indicative of nerve irritation or compression. The penis is richly innervated, and any surgical manipulation can potentially affect nearby nerves. If the penis is not healing properly or if there is excessive swelling, it may lead to pressure on the nerves that innervate the lower extremities, resulting in the symptoms you are describing.
It is also important to consider the possibility of a hematoma (a localized collection of blood outside of blood vessels) or an infection, both of which can cause significant pain and swelling. If you notice increased redness, warmth, or discharge from the surgical site, or if the pain worsens, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly.
Regarding the timeline for recovery, most patients can expect some degree of swelling and discomfort for a few weeks following circumcision. However, if your symptoms persist beyond this period or if they worsen, it is advisable to return to your surgeon for a follow-up evaluation. They may perform a physical examination and possibly imaging studies to assess for any complications.
In terms of pain management, while it is common to use over-the-counter pain relievers, you should consult your healthcare provider if you find that you are relying heavily on pain medication or if the pain is not adequately controlled. They may recommend alternative pain management strategies or adjust your medication.
In summary, while some discomfort and swelling are normal after circumcision, the specific symptoms you are experiencing warrant further evaluation. It is crucial to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, as they can provide tailored advice and interventions to ensure a smooth recovery. If you have not already done so, consider scheduling a follow-up appointment to discuss your concerns and receive appropriate care.
