Myopia issues in the left and right eyes?

Hello doctor, I have myopia in both eyes, approximately 500 degrees, and I wear glasses.
Recently, after taking off my glasses to look at my phone, my right eye suddenly hurt for a moment and turned completely red.
I rested for a while, and later I noticed that when I wear my glasses, there isn't much difference when both eyes look at the same object.
However, if I only use my left eye, it appears clearer than my right eye, which feels less clear and has a slower response (based on cross-comparison results).
Should I see an ophthalmologist?

Hello, if you are experiencing this situation, it could be related to the prescription of your glasses, which may cause a disparity between your eyes.
I recommend that you consult an ophthalmologist to clarify the issue.

When experiencing eye pain, especially if it is sudden and accompanied by other symptoms such as redness, it is crucial to take the situation seriously. In your case, you mentioned that you have myopia (nearsightedness) in both eyes, with a prescription of approximately -500 degrees. You also noted that after removing your glasses to look at your phone, your right eye suddenly experienced pain and redness, and that it feels less clear compared to your left eye.
Given these symptoms, it is advisable to see an eye doctor. Here are several reasons why:
1. Sudden Eye Pain and Redness: Sudden pain in the eye, especially if it is accompanied by redness, can indicate a range of issues, from minor irritations to more serious conditions such as conjunctivitis (pink eye), corneal abrasions, or even acute glaucoma. Each of these conditions requires a different approach to treatment, and an eye care professional can provide the necessary diagnosis and care.

2. Differences in Vision Clarity: You mentioned that your right eye feels less clear than your left eye. This discrepancy in vision could be due to several factors, including but not limited to, changes in the eye's refractive status, the presence of cataracts, or even retinal issues. It is essential to have a comprehensive eye examination to determine the underlying cause of this difference in clarity.

3. Potential for Eye Strain: Given that you have been using electronic devices frequently, it is possible that you are experiencing digital eye strain, which can lead to discomfort, pain, and temporary changes in vision. However, it is important to rule out any other underlying conditions that may be contributing to your symptoms.

4. Myopia Management: As a myopic individual, you are at a higher risk for certain eye conditions, including retinal detachment and glaucoma. Regular check-ups with an eye care professional can help monitor your eye health and catch any potential issues early.

5. Preventing Long-Term Damage: Ignoring symptoms like eye pain and changes in vision can lead to more severe problems down the line. Early intervention is key to preventing potential complications that could affect your vision permanently.

In summary, based on your symptoms of sudden eye pain, redness, and a noticeable difference in clarity between your eyes, it is highly recommended that you schedule an appointment with an eye doctor as soon as possible. They will conduct a thorough examination, which may include checking your intraocular pressure, assessing the health of your cornea and retina, and determining if any changes in your prescription are necessary.
In the meantime, you can take some steps to alleviate discomfort, such as using artificial tears to relieve dryness, taking regular breaks from screens (the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds), and ensuring that your glasses prescription is up to date. However, these measures should not replace professional medical advice and treatment. Your eye health is paramount, and addressing these symptoms promptly will help ensure that your vision remains clear and healthy.
