Car accident injuries?

A few weeks ago, I was injured in a car accident and had X-rays and a CT scan, both of which showed no issues.
However, the inner thigh near the groin still hurts a lot.
It hurts when I sleep on my side or lie flat, and I walk with a limp.
Which specialty should I see for this?

After a car accident, experiencing persistent pain, especially in the inner thigh near the groin, can be concerning. Given that you have already undergone X-rays and a CT scan which did not reveal any fractures or major injuries, it is essential to consider the possibility of soft tissue injuries, such as muscle strains, ligament sprains, or even nerve-related issues.

In your case, the pain you are experiencing could be due to several factors. First, soft tissue injuries are common after trauma, even when imaging studies do not show any fractures. These injuries can involve muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, leading to pain, swelling, and limited mobility. The groin area is particularly susceptible to strains, especially if there was any twisting or sudden movement during the accident.

Additionally, the pain you describe when lying on your side or back could indicate that the affected area is sensitive to pressure or movement. This is often seen in cases of muscle strain or inflammation. If the pain is severe enough to cause a limp while walking, it may suggest that the injury is impacting your ability to bear weight or move normally.

Given your symptoms, it would be advisable to consult with an orthopedic specialist. Orthopedic doctors specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, including those affecting the bones, joints, muscles, and tendons. They can perform a thorough physical examination to assess your range of motion, strength, and pain levels. If necessary, they may recommend further imaging studies, such as an MRI, to evaluate soft tissue injuries that may not be visible on X-rays or CT scans.

In addition to seeing an orthopedic specialist, you may also benefit from consulting a physical therapist. Physical therapy can be crucial in your recovery process, as it focuses on restoring movement, strength, and function to the affected area. A physical therapist can design a personalized rehabilitation program that includes exercises to improve flexibility, strength, and stability, as well as modalities to manage pain and inflammation.

If your pain persists or worsens, or if you experience any new symptoms such as numbness, tingling, or weakness in your leg, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of a more serious condition, such as a nerve injury or vascular issue, which may require immediate intervention.

In summary, based on your symptoms and the nature of your injury, it is recommended that you see an orthopedic specialist for a comprehensive evaluation. They can help determine the underlying cause of your pain and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Additionally, incorporating physical therapy into your recovery can significantly aid in regaining strength and mobility, allowing you to return to your normal activities as soon as possible. Remember to listen to your body and avoid activities that exacerbate your pain during the healing process.
