The medication prescribed for folliculitis seems to cause constipation?

Hello Doctor: Recently, I developed folliculitis and after visiting a dermatologist, I was prescribed antibiotics with the following medications: 1.
BAKTAR 2.
POTARLON TABLETS 3.
SUWELL.
After taking this combination of medications for two days, I seem to be experiencing constipation and would like to inquire if SUWELL could be the cause.
I noticed that the side effects of the medications usually list both constipation and diarrhea together.
Is it possible to stop taking SUWELL? Thank you.

If you are experiencing discomfort in your stomach, it is advisable to take gastric medication even if you are not currently taking any.

When it comes to the use of antibiotics, including SUWELL, it's important to understand that these medications can have a variety of side effects, and gastrointestinal issues such as constipation or diarrhea are commonly reported. SUWELL, which contains the active ingredient sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, is a combination antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Antibiotics work by targeting and killing bacteria, but they can also disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the gut. This disruption can lead to gastrointestinal side effects, including both diarrhea and constipation. While diarrhea is more frequently associated with antibiotic use, constipation can occur as well, particularly if the antibiotic alters the gut flora or if the patient experiences changes in diet or fluid intake while on the medication.

In your case, if you have been taking SUWELL along with other medications like BAKTAR and POTARLON TABLETS, it is possible that one or more of these medications could be contributing to your constipation. It's worth noting that the side effects of medications can vary from person to person, and some individuals may experience constipation as a side effect while others may not.

If you are experiencing constipation after starting SUWELL, here are a few considerations:
1. Hydration and Diet: Ensure you are drinking plenty of fluids and consuming a diet rich in fiber. This can help alleviate constipation. Foods high in fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes.

2. Physical Activity: Regular physical activity can also help stimulate bowel movements and relieve constipation.

3. Medication Review: If you suspect that SUWELL or any of the other medications you are taking are causing your constipation, it is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider. They can review your medications and determine if an alternative treatment is necessary.

4. Discontinuation of Medication: Do not stop taking any prescribed medication without first consulting your healthcare provider. They can provide guidance on whether it is safe to discontinue SUWELL or if an alternative antibiotic may be more suitable for your condition.

5. Probiotics: Some individuals find that taking probiotics can help restore the balance of gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics. However, it is generally recommended to take probiotics a few hours apart from antibiotics to minimize any potential interaction.

6. Monitoring Symptoms: Keep track of your symptoms. If constipation persists or worsens, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms (such as severe abdominal pain, bloating, or changes in bowel habits), seek medical attention promptly.

In summary, while SUWELL and other antibiotics can potentially cause constipation, it is essential to consider other factors such as diet, hydration, and overall health. Always consult your healthcare provider before making any changes to your medication regimen or if you have concerns about side effects. They can provide personalized advice based on your specific health needs and circumstances.
