Where can I check my vaccination records?

Hello, doctor.
A few years ago, I received vaccinations for tetanus, hepatitis B, and some other vaccines, but today when I used the health passbook feature in the National Health Insurance app, I only found records of the vaccines administered during infancy (such as the BCG vaccine) and the recent COVID-19 vaccine.
There are no records of the other vaccines.
Therefore, I would like to ask if I can only return to the hospital where I initially received the vaccinations, make an outpatient appointment, and ask the physician in the clinic to help me check the records? Thank you.

Hello: The following information is provided by the Ministry of Health and Welfare: Individuals or medical institutions can inquire about vaccination records through the following three channels: 1.
Since 2014, contracted medical institutions can connect to the "National Immunization Information Management System" vaccination inquiry sub-system.
An updated version has been available since October 2018, allowing all medical institutions to establish a connection for querying and verifying individuals' past vaccination records to accurately provide subsequent vaccination doses.
2.
The Central Health Insurance Administration has integrated vaccination records into the "Health Passbook" system since 2015, allowing individuals to log in using their National Health Insurance (NHI) card to check their records.
3.
Individuals can apply for vaccination certificates at their local health centers (Health Service Centers in Taipei City) by presenting identification and their NHI card.
The health unit will provide the information through the system.
Based on your description, you used the second method to check your vaccination records, but the results were incomplete.
It is recommended that you try the third method and visit your local health center to apply for a vaccination certificate.

Accessing your vaccination records in Taiwan's healthcare system can be a straightforward process, but it may require you to navigate through a few different channels to ensure you obtain the complete information you need. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to access your vaccination records, particularly if you have encountered issues with the health app.

1. Health Insurance Card and Health Wallet: The first step many people take is to use the National Health Insurance (NHI) card and the Health Wallet feature available in the NHI app. This app allows users to view their health records, including vaccination history. However, as you mentioned, it may only show records from specific periods, such as childhood vaccinations (like BCG) and recent vaccinations (like COVID-19). If your other vaccinations (like Tetanus or Hepatitis B) are not listed, it may indicate that those records are not yet updated in the system.

2. National Immunization Information System: Since 2014, Taiwan has implemented a National Immunization Information System (NIIS) that allows healthcare providers to access vaccination records. If you received your vaccinations at a contracted medical institution, they should be able to access your records through this system. If you are unsure whether your healthcare provider is connected to this system, you can inquire directly with them.

3. Local Health Bureau or Health Center: If the app does not provide the information you need, another effective method is to visit your local health bureau or health center. You can bring your identification documents and your NHI card to request a vaccination record. The staff at these centers can access the NIIS and provide you with a comprehensive vaccination history.

4. Contacting the Original Vaccination Provider: If you remember where you received your vaccinations, you can also contact that specific healthcare facility. They should have records of your vaccinations and can assist you in retrieving that information. This may involve making an appointment to discuss your vaccination history with a healthcare provider.

5. Documentation for Future Reference: Once you obtain your vaccination records, it may be beneficial to keep a personal copy for future reference. This can be particularly useful for travel, school enrollment, or employment requirements that may necessitate proof of vaccination.

6. Considerations for Missing Records: If you find that certain vaccinations are missing from your records, it may be worth discussing with your healthcare provider whether you need to receive any booster shots or additional vaccinations to ensure your immunization status is up to date.

In summary, while the NHI app is a convenient tool for accessing health records, it may not always provide a complete picture of your vaccination history. Utilizing the NIIS through healthcare providers, visiting local health bureaus, or contacting the original vaccination sites are all viable options to obtain the necessary information. If you continue to experience difficulties, consider reaching out to the Central Health Insurance Bureau for further assistance. Keeping your vaccination records up to date is essential for your health and well-being, so taking these steps can help ensure you have the information you need.
