Itching of the foreskin near the glans?

In the past few days, I have experienced itching under the foreskin, so I applied a topical ointment for about 2 to 3 days, which resulted in some improvement (I stopped applying it after that).
However, I still feel itching when touching it or during an erection, while cleaning is normal, and there are no issues when using the restroom or at other times.
Could it be that I applied too much medication, causing the skin to become sensitive? Will this condition gradually improve? Is it safe to masturbate during the healing period?

Hello: Keep the area clean and dry; as long as there is no redness, it is acceptable.
The itching sensation may gradually subside for some, while others may still require treatment.
Wishing you good health.

Itchy foreskin can be a bothersome condition that may arise from various causes, including infections, skin conditions, or irritants. Understanding the underlying reasons for the itchiness is crucial for effective treatment and care.

Causes of Itchy Foreskin
1. Infections: One of the most common causes of foreskin itching is infections, such as yeast infections (candidiasis) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These infections can lead to inflammation and irritation of the foreskin.

2. Skin Conditions: Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or contact dermatitis can also cause itching. These conditions may result from allergic reactions to soaps, lotions, or other products that come into contact with the genital area.

3. Poor Hygiene: Inadequate cleaning of the genital area can lead to the accumulation of smegma, a substance that can irritate the skin and cause itching.

4. Irritation: Overuse of topical medications or ointments, such as the one you mentioned (四益的藥膏), can lead to skin sensitivity and irritation. If the ointment is applied too frequently or in excessive amounts, it may cause the skin to become more reactive.

Treatment and Care Tips
1. Proper Hygiene: Maintaining good hygiene is essential. Gently clean the area with mild soap and water daily, ensuring to rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue.

2. Avoid Irritants: If you suspect that a product is causing irritation, discontinue its use. Opt for hypoallergenic products that are free from fragrances and harsh chemicals.

3. Topical Treatments: If you have already used a topical ointment and experienced improvement, it may be beneficial to continue using it as directed. However, if the itching persists or worsens, consult a healthcare provider for alternative treatments.

4. Avoid Excessive Scratching: Scratching can exacerbate irritation and lead to further complications, such as infections. Try to avoid touching the area as much as possible.

5. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If the itching continues, it is advisable to see a healthcare professional. They can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatments, which may include antifungal or antibacterial medications if an infection is present.

Regarding Your Specific Concerns
- Sensitivity from Medication: It is possible that the ointment you applied caused your skin to become sensitive, especially if used excessively. If you notice increased irritation after stopping the ointment, it may take some time for your skin to return to normal.

- Will It Get Better?: Many cases of itchy foreskin resolve with proper care and treatment. However, if the symptoms persist, it is essential to seek medical advice to rule out any underlying conditions.

- Masturbation During Healing: Engaging in masturbation while experiencing irritation can be a personal choice, but it may exacerbate the itching or discomfort. If you feel pain or increased irritation during or after masturbation, it may be best to refrain until the area has healed.

In summary, while some cases of itchy foreskin can resolve with proper hygiene and care, persistent symptoms warrant a consultation with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and tailored treatment plan.
