Missed menstruation?
My period started on December 4 and ended on December 9.
On December 11, I helped my boyfriend manually, and he ejaculated.
I was wearing pants at the time, and I also washed my hands afterward.
However, my period still hasn't arrived by January 10.
I've been under a lot of stress from exams, staying up late, and I've been taking traditional Chinese medicine for a cold.
Could my missed period be due to stress causing hormonal imbalance? Should I take a pregnancy test?

When it comes to missed periods, there are several factors to consider, including stress, hormonal imbalances, and the possibility of pregnancy. Based on your description, it seems you have experienced a missed period since your last menstrual cycle ended on December 9, and you had a sexual encounter shortly after. Given that your period was expected around January 10 and has not yet arrived, it is understandable that you are feeling anxious about the situation.
Firstly, it is important to recognize that stress can significantly impact your menstrual cycle. High levels of stress can lead to hormonal fluctuations, which may cause your period to be delayed or even skipped entirely. This is often referred to as "stress-induced amenorrhea." Additionally, lifestyle factors such as late nights, changes in diet, and overall health can also contribute to irregularities in your menstrual cycle.
Regarding the sexual encounter you mentioned, while you indicated that precautions were taken, it is still possible to conceive even with the use of clothing or washing hands afterward. Sperm can sometimes survive on surfaces for a short period, and if there was any direct contact with the vaginal area, there is a slight chance of pregnancy. Therefore, it is advisable to take a pregnancy test to rule out this possibility. Home pregnancy tests are generally reliable and can provide you with a clearer understanding of your situation.
If the test is negative and your period does not arrive, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider. They can help determine if there are underlying issues such as hormonal imbalances or other medical conditions that may be affecting your menstrual cycle. It is essential to communicate any additional symptoms you may be experiencing, such as changes in mood, physical discomfort, or other health concerns, as these can provide valuable insights into your overall well-being.
In summary, while stress and lifestyle factors may contribute to your missed period, it is crucial to take a pregnancy test to confirm or rule out pregnancy. If the test is negative and your period remains absent, seeking medical advice is recommended to explore further potential causes. Remember, taking care of your mental and physical health is vital during this time, so do not hesitate to reach out for support if you need it.
